Is A Pioneer A Leader?
Shaun tends to think of Leadership in an organizational fashion. Where a team leader coordinates the efforts of the team members to achieve a definable goal.
This is a very true form of leadership. However what is equally true is that leadership can take the form of being a pioneer. Someone who is willing to risk going into uncharted territory, even at the risk of falling off the edge of the world. Also at the risk of being ridiculed for taking such a chance and having to risk going it alone. However what meets the definition of leadership is that if successful other will follow over the trail blazed by the pioneer. He has led the way to the promised land.

A pioneer does not have immediate followers, a leader does. The difference is how far others are lagging behind. IMHO.

IMHO, a pioneer is someone who is innovative, a free thinker if you will. They take the path not traveled. A leader is a glorified coordinator. Barry is a perfect example of a coordinator. A pioneer can survive without the input and support of others, a leader can not.

Sort of over simplified but, here's my take:
A pioneer figures out the goal. A leader gets people to work towards it. Pioneers by their very nature often need to work alone in the face of heresy and other doubters. Very hard for a leader to rally the non-believers in search of the unknown.

Pioneers prefer to work alone...
