They will NEVER get mine either unless I am in jail or dead.

Aren't all shotguns just variations on a piece of pipe?
How much has their (shot for shot) performance improved in the last 200 years?
Not that rifles and pistols have come a long way in 100 years.

im still learning but looks like the devil is in the details....fit/finish, recoil, sound, feel, weight, engraving, wood characteristics....

you could say the same thing about guitars...6 strings fixed to a wooden box....yet, they are all so different

Any base model beretta, purchased at a national chain, will be worth within $100 of what you paid for it a year from now or 20 years from now, adjsuted for inflation. Even more if you believe all the paranoia about hyper-gun control (which I think is a cleverly generated marketing ploy by the manufaturers, retailers and NRA). IOW, if you take care of it and don't beat it to hell, you'll never lose money on a gun. Plus an autoloader will not beat you to death with recoil like some doubles.

I second getting an autoloader to start with. Get one with screw in adjsutable chokes so you can use it for a variety of gunsports. And don't rule out getting a 20 gauge over a 12. Especially if you're over 40.

I can't imagine what a hassle it is to find a place to shoot in NY. Down here we have a sporting clay, trap and skeet range run by the state within 5 miles of my house. $8 a round when the mood strikes. Rarely any waiting...reservations not required.

Really not hard at all... I live on LI within 30 mins of NYC and I can think of a half dozen places I where I could bust up some skeet...and then of course there are another half dozen indoor ranges for pistol/small caliber..And then there are the County and Town ranges...where you can go and plink to your hearts content..

I've been a member here for 25 years...http://www.freeportrevolver.com/theclub.htm Its a range owned by the Freeport Police Dept... My bro is 19 year veteran of the force...

Finally....you could go out on the bay during one of the many waterfowl seasons and get some dinner....

I think Mr Srandalf is from the upper part of NY... where there are even more opportunities to exercise your 2nd amendment rights..

Growing up in a rural/farming community in NW Ohio, I can't imagine not being able to shoot in my backyard. At 42, other than while in the military, I have never shot at a "range" (indoor or outdoor). It blows my mind to think about paying to go shoot a gun somewhere. I feel bad for you guys who can't exercise your rights on your own property (at least for the ones who did not vote for our current disaster waiting to happen).

I grew up in Freeport, now live in Wantagh in the house my great grandfather built..

When I was a kid I went out on the bay in duckboats to blinds we built and froze my balls off duck hunting..... learned to carve some crappy decoys... not like the artistes that make some of those "display" decoys..

Plenty of places to shoot on LI... you have equally as many places near Rochester... just let the farmer know..

oh man, outside of NYC and Long Island, the state of new york is mostly wilderness and farm land....ide have to say it might be one of the most beautiful states in the nation between the Adirondack and Catskill mountains and the Finger Lakes and Lake Ontario....and then you have Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany and Rochester....the rest is mostly wilderness and redneck, which i like
