Good grief, I feel for you guys in the movie business...

When you have to deal with prima-douches like this.

My questions:
#1: what gives anyone a right to talk to someone that way?

#2: what is preventing this guy from getting his ass handed to him?

(caution: meltdown laced with F-bombs; not work or kid friendly)

Just shows his lack of depth. However, I've blown up and showed an incredible lack of depth and control myself many times. It's when you get the replay that you get some insight as to what an ass you are. He'll now join the long list of his type in the business.

It's just the f word over and over and over used as every part of a sentence structure you could imagine. Just trash talk.

He was yelling at the Director of Photography. The Director of the movie shouldn't have stood for it.

That happened 2 days before I showed up to work on the film. The DP couldn't be anywhere on set whenever Christian was there, had to hideout in a popup tent watching on a monitor. Christian was nice to me and other crewmembers, maybe brought some "personal baggage" to work that day, I must say he's an intense dude. This all happened back in August, I'm surprised it leaked out now.

They (above the line people) were all a bit nervous and were walking on eggshells around him trying to avoid another "episode" wether with the DP or someone else. Batman was tearing up the boxoffice and they didn't want to risk losing the only big name in the Terminator film.

Like a lot of people, he's not emotionally mature when the chips are really down. Stress piles up, something "breaks the camel's back" and he melts-down completely. It happens every day a million times in different ways, some people shoot-up their office- other's drive like a maniac on the road and try to fight people in other cars, (road rage), etc., etc...

That was a run-of-the-mill temper-tantrum, IMO. Nothing special. What can't be determined is just how egregious the DP's fk-ups really were, ie. was he making a federal case out of nothing or was some anger pretty justified. As far as blow-ups on sets go, that was nothing special.

If I launched a tirade like that at work I would be in SERIOUS trouble. Career threatening trouble.

Not defending it but sometimes you need to get into a mental place to achieve an objective. Happens to me all the time.

Could be at home cranking out a project and the wife'll interrupt for something. Boom, just like that the flow is gone. She'll look at me later and ask why I stopped working.

Sounded like this was not the first time this individual had walked onto the set while it was rolling.

Still, pretty uncalled for.

I'm a DP
Actors for the most part are very insecure people. They have very fragile ego's and know, even the one's that make it have a very short shelf life. While they are making people money they can get away with shocking things but once they stop making people money it catches up pretty quickly.

I am sure that Mr Bale has a stand in for lighting and blocking. If he was preforming the DP should not have been working the set. Actors consider their performances emotional parts of themselves and something that can be very personal and draining on them physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Whether you agree with it or not you have to respect the process if you want to work. No one pays money to see how well a movie is lit or gripped.

It's a delicate balancing act. Smart actors count on us to protect their image on the screen. Our work can in a small way help an actor become a star or in the same vein work the other way.
I've been yelled at. Not like that but yelled at and it makes it hard to stay professional and not want to do small things like lower the camera an inch or two to be a little less flattering on the nose.
Actor sometimes forget that we have studied ever inch of them and know what works best for the camera and what doesn't!

Don't know if I would be willing to hide form the actor for the rest of the picture and I don't know if I was a "star" I'd let the guy I just chewed out keep taking my picture
At the end of the day when you put a bunch of artist together under tremendous pressure tension is going to happen.

Steve

I saw Moses' remark that this tirade might cost him his job and I was already chuckling when I read Len's statement above, which is correct. A tirade like that would make me a celebrity. For weeks, months, maybe years. Sadly, I'm the calm guy in the room when everyone else is "going ballistic."

When I worked in the trades the vitriol was inspiring. They found new, more colorful ways to insult each other every day. One of my bosses was a giant; about 6' 5" and about 300 pounds. More than once I saw him stuff people head first into a 55 gallon drum or throw them into a dumpster cursing the whole time. Funny stuff as long as you weren't the target. He had dice tattooed in the palm of his hand.
