Looks like the bird didn't lose. No blood :).

ramonesfreak 02-05-2009 11:45 AM

my guess an owl..although if it were an owl or hawk....were are the tracks made by whatever it picked up

Mr.Puff 02-05-2009 11:49 AM

I don't know, the claw marks have too many "toes" for an owl. We can assume it snowed slightly after the event occurred?

Looks like the Polish Flag:

The indentations in the third picture could be prints leading away.

Need not drag this on, just a little afternoon thread.
It was a either a juevenile Northern Harrior, which I think it was, or a juevenile Redtail Hawk. I looked out my window this morning and there he sat, (the deed had been done). It was holding down a small bird. I watched for quite a while through binoculars, (dumb-arse me didn't think to snap a pic of said bird), thinking it was waiting for the prey to die. I finally went out onto my rear deck to get a better look. Well he heard my feet crunch on the snow and took off with it's prey. What happened next was interesting and I feel kinda bad. There were 2 crows in the woods where the hawk flew in. They were waiting for him and he knew it, that's why he was staying put. So, one crow takes off after him. The second calls out, (I don't have a good crow voice), then he takes off after the hawk. Hearing the calls about 5 others come from no where and start in on the chase. It was amazing. The hawk & crows darting in and out of the trees. The crows barking out orders to each other. I finally lost sight of all of them. But right at the end I heard the hawk squaking. I hope he wasn't saying, "Hey Arse-Hole thanks for helping me loose my breakfast" :(
I'm also curious as to why there are no blood. Or tracks unless the hawk caught the bird in mid-flight and landed there.

the other day i saw a bunch of crows harassing a BALD EAGLE that had it's dinner in it's talons. probably about a dozen birds weaving around in the sky till the eagle dropped it's meal into the batch of black thieves. just wait they will get their due someday.
