dog shows i get, sort of. cat shows? wtf?

wow. i am watching a documentary on cat shows. PBS. i lost a coin toss with my lovely wife. she is chinese (you reading this shaun?)

every lady submitting a cat, meets that crazy "cat lady" criteria. makeup, diapers, homemade shampoos...wierd.

lots of big ladies on the show. dont see a whole lot of husbands...

Our cat is much too dignified to put up with that stuff...

You might be surprised at how much money can be made by cat fanciers.

I don't really believe in it (too many strays and animals languishing in shelters to be bringing more into the world just because certain people like their colors or whatever), but it's pretty amazing what some of those cats will go for...

Ours is a foundling...a rescue if you will. Her purrs are as good as those of any fancy breed cat...

Yep, all mine have been (and are) mixes - either shelter cats or "giveaway" cats. Once they find their way to me, they've found a "forever" home. I consider them family.

Kudos to you, Jeff...

We went to a local ferret show about 10 years go. What a freak show! These are people who were kicked out of dog shows for being too bizarre! What's with dog/cat shows and the gays? What is the attraction there? Have you seen "Best In Show"? It's funny because it's so close to the truth!

Dog shows, they can talk about what the dogs were bred for (hunting, rescue, home protection, herding, etc.).

Cat shows, what would they say? "Ohhh Bob, look at that one! It REALLY hates humans!"

Porsche-O-Phile 02-06-2009 05:55 AM

Cats are better natural hunters than dogs are. Just the prey tends to be smaller and less impressive from a human standpoint.

In my experience, cats tend to reciprocate the way they're treated. Most of the "human hating" kind are owned by people that don't really like/care for/play with them. Yes, they're solitary by nature but are quite loving and affectionate too - if you allow them to be. That's my experience anyway.

As with dogs, it's typically not the animal - it's the owner. Typically, not always.

the way they stroke the pussies in those shows is crazy.
