Today was pretty nice. Sunny after 12 and around 50 degrees.

The roads are a sloppy mess but I did see a couple of motorcycles out.

Not nice enough to get the 911 out but it does brighten the mood of people.

Said one Australian exhibitionist to another:

"Nice out, ain't it?"

Replied the other:

"Too right mate. Think I'll take mine out."

I like the snow, but this winter has been brutal so far. It makes my job really suck. My parking lot is a sheet of 4" solid ice, I have to de-ice every car before they come in the shop, and then they drip on me all day. Wet floors , cold shop, dark at 5:00, spring cannot come fast enough this year. I got my SC up and running late in the fall with a carbed 3.2. I only put a couple hunderd miles on it , so I am anxious for some good driving weather.

When my Grandfather left Sweden for America, he went right past Wisconsin and Minnesota and didn't stop until he got to California. He must have been one of the smarter Swedes.

Eh? Most urban/suburban houses in England use gas for heating, if they don't have central heating (and most do). Probably still some farms and old houses that don't, but they're a tiny fraction.

I'm not sure if burning coal or wood (very inefficient) for heat is just discouraged or actually illegal - but the "pea soupers" (very thick fog because the smoke particles bind to the water droplets) I recall from my childhood are a thing of the past.

You folks in the Scandinavian countries should be grateful; remember reading that most of the acid rain generated by coal burning in the UK actually ended up eroding your buildings and statues etc. over there thanks to prevailing winds.

I am getting depressed too. We had rain on and off in SoCal for 4 days in a row now.

There is a need for physicians in the US. Why not pack up and leave the arctic circle?

You're welcome to come down here. We need some more good pediatricians like you.

The weather is also glorious. Right now my pool temp is 26°C, on my back porch probably 28°C or so. We just had a week of rain, but the sun is back out and life is good.....

Winters down here ain't too bad either, no snow/sleet/ice, just dry and cold with lots of sunshine.

Sure is pretty but I have heard less than great things about the political state of South Africa.

One more comment - the issue with Scandinavia and even Central Europe is the fact that it is so far north in latitude that the winters are plain too dark. Finland is right up there with Alaska! The US is pretty far south compared. Germany is at the latitude o New Fundland. Italy lines up with New England.

What's good to know is that SoCal is just about the latitude of North Africa and New Orleans is very close to that of Cario.

Better thank the gulf stream for saving Europe - without it, it would be a permafrost area.

We could say the same about the political state of SoCal, but let's keep those comments for PARF, OK? This thread is about climate.

Peace.

Hey! Leave SoCal out of this. He's from Oklahoma.

Besides, SoCal is fine. It's the rest of Cali. The bar I was at, was packed. Three pints for me and a $20.- tab.

This thread is really cheering me up. Thanks for all support, advice and invitations!

Hey, wait a minute! Looking out the window just now, I actually spot a small hole in the clouds where the sun is shining threw. Now where is my sheet of reflecting metal - I am out of here!

I hear you, mate. Last year we had two or three days with temps at 27C or above. That was more than six months ago..

I think we all tire of our environment. Even SoCal gets boring. Last year was the hottest on record. My house never went below 80* 24/7 for nearly 3 months. 5AM and 80* is not my type of weather. Most of the time, we can get by without central AC, but if the trend continues, I may have to install something.

Markus, I wouldn't want the same dreary, gray conditions you have days on end. Up in Seattle, they have a name for the condition it can produce, a depression. You'll have to take a long weekend and fly south. How far, I don't know.

Hope you caught some rays, the vitamin D will do you good.

Good point Milt,

I'm always telling my kids.... "This is Canada and it's about as good as it gets here; get used to it and enjoy it!" They generally do. We start swimming in the lake in May, June at the latest and we get outside skiing and sledding in the winters. Make the best of it.

Now when we lived in Calgary..... that was an entire different story.... Brrrr!
(kidding, it was the same there; we golfed, rode horses, hiked, camped, etc)
