I believe the term you're looking for is EMP.

NORAD planners used to expect the soviets to detonate a massive air-burst (something along the lines of the Tsar Bomba, yield wise) over the US in the opening stages of a nuclear war, in order to disable the electronics in the US coast to coast.

Sail boats, row boats, hang-gliders, horse...

My fireplace would still work.

you need an old diesel car... those things will run without electrics

That's what I would think too. The best "apocalypse" car would be an old diesel with entirely mechanical injection and converted to run on vegetable oil.

Armored too (IAC Level VI), would be a good idea.

I have worked in a few telephone switches that were supposedly EMP proof, one in particular had 3 exterior walls. Would it survive? I dunno. I have an old Hammarlund tube radio that I would bet big $ would survive but that's not why I bought it.. I bought it for the cool factor. Not that I would be able to power it up if there was a nuke going off.

In all honesty if there was a nuclear war, I would hope to be vaporized in the first attack because life after would be horrible to say the least.

I order my salmonella seared and blackened and have never gotten sick.

How does fish get into peanut butter anyway?

Ooooooooh, is this just another neocon scare tactic?
