Didja Ever Notice

Did you ever notice that in the movies from the 30's and 40's the driver of a car would enter the car from the passengers side and then slide over to the drivers seat.

I would have to believe that art is mimicking real life and that was the way it was done back in the day.

Could be as simple as that...no center console cars back then.

Entering from the curb side is safer.

Bench seats were the hot ticket back then. I think the Europeans were responsible for the move to bucket seats. I think it was supposed to reduce teen age pregnancies.

If they filmed it the other way the camera would block traffic.

I've always noticed that too and came to the same conclusion craigster did.

I've never noticed this. What if they approach the car from the driver's side... do they go around and get in the passenger side?

I think tabs might have the ticket on this one... safety.

Watch Jimmy Stewart in Vertigo. Here he is right after sliding out the passenger side of his car.
