Pontiac GXP content

Idiot dealers. They finally get a good car, so they price it high enough that nobody will buy it.

Didn't this happen with the Dodge Challengers? Now they are sitting on lots and airport runways collecting dust.

They're not doing that around here. That's just a stupid dealer.

Sad really. Who's going to pay 50k for a Pontiac? Wait 6 months and buy it for 25-30k.

All they need is one sucker, right? Though I wonder how many customers they lose by their arrogance in the meantime.

Comedy gold.
One of my co-workers has an '08 Challenger R/T. He's afraid to put miles on it, for fear of "diminished value."
Edit: Meaning he thinks it will gain value as a collectible.

What kind of mental midget would pay $51k for a Pontiac? Its madness. I guess they just need to find one sucker with great credit and a traumatic head injury.

i emailed him this question: what makes this car so special as compared to the 12 gxp's in the immediate area with the $3000 gm cash rebate?

side note, i have already seen the V6 challengers for less than $17000 new...sweet car, I really like the new challenger

Do manufacturer's have any discretion over these things? I certainly wouldn't want any govt regulation on this (or anything), but if I was GM I'd probably not want things like this happening.

Insane.

Well, now in all fairness, if he keeps the miles low, it probably will worth something.....in about 500 years.

American companies have very little control over their dealers, and not such great relations with them to boot. One of the many things killing Detroit.....

Any time a dealer adds "additional dealer markup", I walk. I wish everybody would do the same. Still, until total socialism is in place, it's a free market, with both buyer and seller deciding a price.

We're getting ready to see about $5 trillion worth of Socialism over the next four years...starting with about $800 billion.

Someone's probably going to use at least the $500 work pay credit+new car deductions and tax breaks to pay for that Pontiac...which is being provided by a company that's doing its part to drain our treasury to stay in business.

Ain't it great?

It will. Definitely.

Year for year an old challenger is worth more than any 911 i suspect.

Yes and no.

I know that when the Solstice was introduced, Bob Lutz made it clear that any dealerships who added "additional dealer markup" would not receive any more Solstices.

But GM is in a much weaker position now, and starting a fight with dealerships, no matter how right they are and how stupid the dealerships are behaving, probably will not help them.

I agree. I think it's nuts. FWIW, I was at a GM dealership looking at cars with my brother over the weekend. The place was empty. I asked the sales manager to give me a ballpark figure of what it might cost so my bro and his wife could think it over-- "I don't have time to just give out numbers..." says the guy. The showroom is nothing but crickets and this guy is telling me he doesn't have time. GM just doesn't get it.

BTW, I think the Pontiac is the G8 -- GXP is the uplevel version. Like EX trim for Hondas or LTZ for Chevys.

The GXP is the performance version. Read big corvetter v8. Its a fast car but at heart it is still just a pontiac.

'Fraid you're right...that's why I placed the "until we see..." in my post.

After all, only those who want to be "the first one on the block" are foolish enough to pay "additional dealer markup". It's their choice to decide whether or not to pay it, it's the dealer's choice to try to get it. Free enterprise. Far be it from me to suggest Government should tell either party what to do.

Socialism sucks. As Maggie Thatcher said, the problem with socialism is that it runs out of other people's money.

That's not quite true...it may LOOK like a 4 door Pontiac, but underneath and under the hood, it's wayyy different. Fully independent suspension with big brakes, trick shocks, plenty of rubber, etc. It really is quite a Q ship.

I guess at it's heart a 65 GTO is "still just a pontiac" too?
