When I'm on 3G, flycast has really good sound quality. At least as good as FM. It's not a bad idea, as the flycast stations are better than local FM, except for talk radio.

All is good, they got a bridge loan and will restructure. And yes I would miss it, I can listen to 15 on Sirius all day in my garage and never hear a commercial. I get into a rental car or otherwise now and regular FM is just aggravating.
I tried radio over my 3g phone, its a bit choppy and a tad unreliable. Maybe if it matures at some point I look again. |
Between my 40gb music collection, old downloaded episodes of Loveline with Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew, and current podcasts of Adam Carrolla's Morning Show, I see absolutely no reason for satellite radio, or even radio in general.

The guy I carpool with has it and he listens to it on the days he drives (about 2 1/2 hours a week).
He really likes it but I'm not impressed enough to justify spending money on it. It just isn't that good IMO. If it cost less than a dollar a month I MIGHT have considered it. BTW he is about my age but never had kids and makes about the same as me. He has a huge motor home, a boat, a very expensive sand rail and all kinds of ATVs and motorcycles. He has all the toys (and bills), maybe that explains why he likes his satellite radio. One more thing to collect. He likes to spend money, I like to save money. |

I never listen to talk radio and hear commercials on XM all the time. And quite frankly Stern can crawl in a hole and die. My dad and I both would do the phone thing we travel frequently into areas that are 3G deadzones and not great for edge. The satellite almost always works and its consistently the same channel unlike fm. Now if only to get rid of those pesky commercials like when we first got it... Oh and you mention not enough new subscribers??? They was making it commercial free on the subscribers they had before... I mean we are all still paying. I think they just got greedy.

I would definitely miss XM if it were to leave...
I love listening to the old radio shows - hearing Jack Benny, Bob Hope, even Lucy Ball is a hoot. For short trips to the market - it's wonderful... Allan's Alley, Long Ranger - all my old buds. On long journeys - I switch to Sonic Theatre and listen to old radio "plays" and "books" -- I'd hate to lose that. |

I don't listen to talk radio...I get enough idiocy in PARF :D
I have a few stations that are programmed in but most of my time is spend on 16 - Deep Tracks. You can't hear that stuff ANYWHERE else, and it certainly goes way beyond my music collection. Basically all of the B-sides, album cuts from albums where they only played one or two songs, and obscure bands that never were mainstream. Amazing station. It was "The Vault" on Sirius before they merged and wasn't as good. Now it is pretty stunning. Then for guilty pleasures I got to 70's on 7, Shade 45 for hip hop, and 72 for classic jazz. That said I spend most of my vehicle time on the bike so I'm not listening to anything other than the voices in my head. |
I have had XM in the cars since the beginning. Added a Sirius to the boat (got it as a gift, and didn't want to embarass the giver by exhanging it).
Some of XM's stations went 'off air' during the merger. Have come back worse for wear. Sirius has changed completely. It was obvious that XM bought out Sirius. The Sirius goes when it expires next, and the XM will probably go too. |

If they would fire Howard they would save a bunch and I for one would not know he was gone
I do love satellite radio Most anything you want anywhere Never a dumb D.J. with worthless word babel about what he did last week end |
I have been a XM subscriber since Feb 2002. I would probably miss it, but find a way to survive. I don't have time to "manage" a music collection and I don't like driving around with the ipod hooked up unless I'm rolling for a long time. I like to listen to O&A and CNN/Fox news to get caught up on things. My wife likes it for XM kids in the van.
The few commercials don't bother me. I think that content has picked up with the merger. Sirius plays more "mainstream" stuff (bu more of it) on the stations I listen to. I think XM got bored and picked some obscure stuff and just stuck with it. I like the DJs from Sirius. It makes it seem like "real radio". If you listen for hours on end, it's nice to hear a human voice instead of those pre-recorded sweepers on XM. The early days of XM had DJs.... XM is local to me. They allways ebbed an flowed on employment. I interviewed for a job at their HQ. It's a cool place, but I would have worked in the windowless basement with 100's of other people. No thanks. They always have job openings. Months later they'd advertise the same jobs. I had a friend who got a job there and got laid off in 3 months. What a mess. |
I was an XM user and really enjoyed the play list. Since the merger, I listen primarily to Outlaw Country (XM12) and I find the play list has been much diluted. Still much better than anything I can find on FM (oops Clear Channel).

Yeah, outlaw is a new one since the merger. I like it better than the old #12 cross country. |
