Cobra coupe.

I know someone was asking about cobra kits. How about a hardtop? Looks like it just clipped on but made for a purty sexy car. Sorry but I saw this leaving class today and all i could get was pics from my iPhone. Woulda tracked him down but didnt have the time.

That looks like a cobra with an optional hardtop. You can get the same kind of optional hardtop for lots of cars, corvettes, Z3, Z4, miata, and last but certainly not least, the boxster. And I'm sure that's not an exhaustive list.

I wouldn't consider that a cobra coupe.

THIS is a cobra coupe.

That first ratty-looking coupe is the missing one discovered in a old widow's garage. Tucked away for years, she had little idea of the value of the car. Quite a battle ensued over who could purchase it, if I remember correctly. Quite a good story.

Actually, she had a very good idea how much it was worth. Her daughter, who died after setting herself on fire and running down the street had been hounded for years by people who thought she had the missing car. Including Shelby himself. After her death, her mother sold it for a couple of million to a doctor on the east coast who is going to leave it as the above picture shows it. It's had been sitting in a storage garage untouched for years. Her father worked on it when it was originally built and it was also owned at one time by Phil Spector. The car has alot of history.

The Superformance Coupe was redesigned by Peter Brock who originally designed the original coupe. He made it longer and wider. I like the looks of the Superformance Coupe much better then the original. Ironically, the other Peter Brock was killed racing one in a Targa event a couple of years ago.

I've always thought the Daytona Cobra was a great looking car. Part beauty, part meanicingly purposeful.

Not sure about the roadster with the hard top to be honest. Looks a little out of proportion somehow. Maybe that's why I prefer coupes to roadsters generally, just a little more graceful.

That said, I really like the look of the Miata with the add-on hard top...not for me of course.

If you want to see it, you can go to the Simeone Foundation and check it out. He has quite a few amazing cars in there. It is within 10 minutes of the Philadelphia airport. He also has a 917, gulwing mercedes, Gt-40, etc.

Now that is a Cobra coupe. Interesting history.

Le Mans factory hardtop on CSX2142, a '63 289. Note the gas filler on the roof. The original filler is on part of the rear deck that's covered by the hardtop, so they ran a hose up to another filler cap the roof. I saw one of the 289 Le Mans prototypes race at SIR in the Historics one year...very cool cars! I believe you can get these from some of the Cobra replica manufacturers.
