another multiple choice question

According to the Physicians Committee for Social Responsibility, what is the "single most environmentally destructive industry in the world"?

m21sniper 02-22-2009 06:43 PM

Who F'ing cares what that group thinks !!! I have known a few of them and they are whack jobs.

Por_sha911 02-22-2009 06:55 PM

I see a big fat agenda getting in the way of objective reasoning (read Global Warming, Ethanol in fuel, or anything done by Michael Moore or Al Sharpton.)
As such, my answer is:
The Beer industry. They use resources to make, package, and distribute the stuff. The product turns normal people into lazy rednecks who live in trailers, watch Nascar races, and pass gas (which also adds to global warming). The product also increases urination (which when sometimes done by beer drinkers in an indoor facility) will deplete our fresh water. Lastly, beer drank in excess and combined with driving (such as during the aforementioned Nascar) will cause traffic accidents and fatalities. Bad stuff all the way around.

Environmental science?

techweenie 02-23-2009 02:20 PM

The beef industry is incredibly destructive in multiple ways.

Aerkuld 02-23-2009 07:26 PM

It has to be the grazing of domestic livestock because any of the others would be too obvious.

rouxroux 02-24-2009 05:19 AM

Not sure, but I think Larry Flynt has his finger on it....:D

According to an opinion piece I read recently in our local entertainment rag, environmental impact-wise, it's the coal burning thing, but who knows... the organization the author quoted could be using tweaked numbers.

Just think of the evil that a hundred million Buffalo wrought. It's a wonder that the world lived through that calamity.

Bingo.

These questions are a decade old, and note the "according to..."
- of course, they are well-regarded assotion of professional doctors, not whack jobs as the crazy person and his little sir echo above posted.

- domestic livestock do generate greenhouse gases, notably methane, but I think the main reason the group put them first was damage due to grazing, and water pollution from "factory farms"

dd74 02-24-2009 01:37 PM

So...we should become vegetarians to save the planet?

Look, I'm willing to drive hybrid, use less lights in the house, turn down the heat, etc., etc.

But meat and/or dairy isn't in the cards...
