What happens when you auto-x without torquing lug-nut's
check those lugs!!

Welcome to last year?
The lug nuts were properly torqued, they just happened to be the wrong ones. The threads engaged just enough of the stud threads to to take the proper torque, but not enough to actually hold Rcomps on under stress. ie SAE lugs on a metric car. So the note is... double check your parts when you receive them! |

LOL, way back when I was in college i had a 914 and it developped a clicking noise when I went around corners. Being 19 and a mechanical genius, I instantly knew it was a CV joint. $95 and 3/4 of a day later, I drove off all pround of myself for being able to replace two CV joints without a press or special tools, until I noticed the clicking noise had returned. $95 was a lot of money back then, I was making $2.65 an hour.
Turns out the car had POS riviera rims and the stock lug bolts were the wrong design and too short to boot, they didn't tighten up right unless you really cranked the snot out of them, and that was a band-aid. I swallowed my pride and consulted the local porsche guru, he set me straight with the right bolts. I'm not as smart as i was then ;) |
