Lost - show tonight, question

i wont spoil it for you west coasters, but when youve watched it, what do you think is the reason for what happened ..... youll see what i mean. i cant figure this out

specifically, why did ben do what he did instead of just letting it happen

VaSteve 02-25-2009 07:49 PM

go back to someone's post from last week. they said Ben was more of a pawn than we have been led to believe. I don't think he knew who he was looking for until Locke said it. Notice his expression?

CJFusco 02-25-2009 07:51 PM

He wanted information. Eloise Hawking, Jin.

ramonesfreak 02-25-2009 07:51 PM

i dont want to spoil it for people who havent seen it yet

hmmmm....so he stalled him, got the answer, and then did what needed to be done because talking locke into doing what he just talked him out of doing, would be impossible?

CJFusco 02-25-2009 07:53 PM

if he didn't talk him out of it, he wouldn't have known that Farraday's mother was the key to getting back to the Island. That's all Ben wants, IMHO, to get back and rule the Others again (in time for the coming war?)

Jack's father was rumored to be murdered, so would John Locke have to be murdered as well? He was taking Jack's father's place on the flight.

CJFusco 02-26-2009 03:39 AM

^That's a pretty good point... although I do not think that Ben expected Locke to revive once he returned to the Island (hence, "I'm going to miss you, John.")

It was obvious that Ben did not know that Jin was alive and that seemed to bother him. I don't understand why Ben did that, but Lost seems to be taking on a serious Christianity theme now. I wonder if Locke was "dead" for three days?

One thing that hit me, though - if Widmore knew where Eloise Hawking was (he gave Desmond her info), why did Widmore not go to Eloise himself to "find the island"? Why search for it for years if she knew how to find it and he knew how to find her?

I think he knows John is "special" in some way, he has averted certain death many times. He survived falling out of a building, getting shot, and when Jack tried to shoot him with a gun that was supposed to be loaded.
To me, it appears as if Ben believed that he would see John again.

rammstein 02-26-2009 07:17 AM

I think John is the experiment.

TSNAPCRACKLEPOP 02-26-2009 08:31 AM

I saw it just as John was about to, and then saw the result as Ben left, but figured it out as I missed the deed itself. But I don't know what time frame it is that they returned to the island, and assumed that it is a previous time when John is still alive?

I don't think it BOTHERED him as much as made him realize that Jin was the key to getting Sun back on the Island. He was probably stumped as to how he was going to convince her; but perhaps he WAS bothered a bit... because if he was responsible for Jin's almost-death, doesn't it hold true that Jin and Sun would want revenge?

He did! How do you think his people (on the Kataya freighter) found the Island last season?

Well, I knew that part, but it seemed that he had been looking for the island for quite a bit longer time than that...

CJFusco 02-26-2009 09:23 AM

Well, he's clearly known Eloise Hawking for awhile (I'm 99% sure she was the cute blonde that takes Daniel to the A-bomb when they were back in 1954), but perhaps Eloise hadn't found the Light Post Station and its Foucault's Pendulum until very recently?

(Hah I just realized how ridiculous these posts must look to someone who doesn't watch the show)
