Crazy Alabama weather

It has been raining so hard here all day long, I can't imagine how we haven't all sunk into the wet earth. I think it's time to start building the ark and loading up two by two!

I guess the good news is that all the standing water showed me exactly where some drainage problems were. I got into some rain gear, grabbed a shovel, and dug some trenches away from the front & back garage doors thru some dirt that had washed up. MUCH better now!

We will have tornado watches/warnings thru the night, and I sweartagawd they are forecasting SNOW here for Saturday night/Sunday morning.

I'm talking central ALABAMA, yall!

Haha! Leading up to the election, we saw some of these around:

Now, you're not saying he's responsible for our weather, are you?

Or are you? Shhhh this will get yanked to PARF.

Which, I know yall have noticed, rhymes with BARF.

I hope that all that rain helps with the drought in 'bama & GA. I drove by Lake Alaltoona last Tues on a jaunt from Nashville to Atlanta & it's still looking pretty grim.

I lived in the Huntsville/Decatur area for 21 years. I've had it with the severe weather in that area. I think I looked once and there had been seven F5 tornados within 100 miles of my house (and at the time only about 50 F5 tornados ever recorded). I've seen "green sky" enough to last me a lifetime.

My mom's up near Lawrenceville, GA and she's already doing the bread-and-milk and flashlight-battery runs. Me, I'm just trying to get some alternative heating going since our gas furnace was just taken out of commission (leaking gas) the other day. And we thought we could COAST to Spring without fixing it right away. HA HA HA HA HA!

Here's the latest model for possible snow - not a forecast, just one of many models - showing up to 6" accumulation for parts of Birmingham. Looks like we might have some fun!

I lived in Talladega for one year. It didn't seem too bad as an adventure, but the weather sucked. Once I left, I have no intention of ever setting foot in the Ol' South again.

If the weather don't get you, the constant "Ware y'all from?" will. I all is from CA.

I'd still prefer that to the freezing cold we have here. We're at about -12C today which is I don't know what in F, but damn cold!

Come to think of it, is there any place in the western hemisphere that has consistently nice temps all year round (no extreme heat or cold) that isn't hurricane/flooding/drought/earthquake prone? I can't think of any, but if I can, you might find me there. Permanently. Soon.

Started snowing here in Memphis about 2:30PM, we've got about 2 inches so far.

Spring time in the south... supposed to be 70 by Thursday

It's supposed to snow 3-5 inches here tomorrow night. I'd better rush off to the store and purchase 2 dozen loaves of bread and thirty-eleven gallons of milk so's I'm prepared .

I've got the oven nicely heating up the kitchen, baking chicken and iron skillet au gratin potatoes. Got the hot water heater pilot lit - after a very cold shower!

What usually happens down here is the branches get laden with snow and ice, and fall thru the power lines. So we've got the old gas-fired ceramic heaters fired up just in case. Alas, cable TV is usually the first thing to go.

I'm sure the stores are already cleared of bread and milk!

Well let the freak-out begin! There's a mix of rain and sleet at my house, but the severe weather twitter forum is full of reports of snow all over north & central Alabama. Wheee!

We have about the same dusting of snow here in the mid-Atlantic as you have, Jim. Probably a bit more snow is on the way. The way the locals drive when conditions are anything but absolutely perfect, it's better to stay home today.

Snow stopped last night about 8:30, I'm guessing we got 4 inches. About 6PM I cleared my driveway, by the time the snow stopped it had another 2 inches on it. Still 32F right now but the streets are clearing.
