i listen to some. not a big fan of the stuff that sounds like everyone is playing a different song.
when i would mix sound with my friend and the band/s would hit a bad note we would look at each other and say "thats jazz!"

I've heard some of that and I'm also not a fan. It reminds me of Eddie Murphy talking about white people dancing, describing how we dance to the words instead of the beat.

I've actually got some Glenn Gould, but it's classical music, not jazz.

Gould - Hard to imagine what must have been going on inside his head.
A Genius .

He really stradles the line - Bach as Jazz, or Jazz as Classical - just pure music maybe.
Interesting how Keith Jarret also took to Bach and quite well - but no where near the depth and voice and genius of Gould.

I believe Bach is an inspiration to many musicians.

And not just musicians.

But very interesting that Keith Jarrett recorded the Well Tempered Clavier (Books 1 and 2) - a serious effort that was well received in the Classical world.
I believe he recorded some other of Bachs works as well but I haven't listened to those.

Steve, pick an musician you like and go to Pandora.com. Sign up and create a "station" with that artist's name and Pandora will play that artist and similar genre tunes from other artists. I listen to it every night and discovered so many, new to me, talents. Right now I'm listening to a cut from Pat Metheny's Metheny Meldau Quartet , before that it was old Chick Corea, and before that a band called Ohm on my Terje Rypdal station (how's that for obscure?). I hear something I like and create another station from that artist and it evolves from there. Right now I've got about 20 different stations. I create about one a week. I also keep a post-it pad close by and jot down artists and album names I really like for the next bulk Amazon purchase. Did I mention Pandora is free and plays ad infinitum (so far).

Pelican and Pandora are the reasons I'm going to have a wireless Internet connection in my new garage.

mostly crap music for jackasses.

the only tolerable stuff is immediately related to peanuts.

yeah man....Vince Guaradli... played some tasteful stuff. I saw recently that CB Christmas CD was still one of the most popular downloads on the web... 30 years after its release.
