Happy "Square Root Day!"

Today is "Square Root Day!" 3x3=9. That is: today's date of 3/3/9 -- 3rd month and 3rd day in the year 200"9". This celebration goes back to the science community of the 1950's and happens only 15 times per century.

how can there be 15 in a century. that is only 100 years.
should be no more than 9. if you squeeze the point, 10.
besides, there are only 12 months in a year.

vash 03-03-2009 10:41 AM

You are correct, there are only nine:

* 1/1/01
* 2/2/04
* 3/3/09
* 4/4/16
* 5/5/25
* 6/6/36
* 7/7/49
* 8/8/64
* 9/9/81

Celebrate by eating root vegetables!

Does Hallmark have a card I can send you?

Amail 03-03-2009 11:03 AM

I'm with the cook.

1/1/2001
2/2/2004
3/3/2009
4/4/2016
5/5/2025
6/6/2036
7/7/2049
8/8/2068
9/9/2081

According to Wikipedia (and they're never wrong ;-)), this happens 9 times a century and is attributed to a science teacher back in 1981.

About four years late, but you know what he meant....

What about 10/10/xx00?

10/10/2100

Eating pi is completely rational. I don't think I need to bother repeating that. :cool:

DARISC 03-03-2009 05:36 PM

Cake are square. Pi are round.
