I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell is a book written by Tucker Max

Anybody read this? Is it worth reading. I am finishing a streak of serious topic books I would like something off color.

I read a a few pages in the book store with my kid's the other day. Lots of debauchery, it reminded me of younger years in school.

Good or Junk ?

I'm tied up with 'serious' for months and months!!!

I think it is more or less a compilation of all the stories from his site. Can read them there for free. Funny stuff, but the guy has little in the way of redeeming qualities.

He's a little brash and full of himself, but he's also pretty smart and tends to call things like he sees them. He's pretty astute with dealing with the change that media is going through as a result of technology, and is doing an excellent job of taking full advantage of it.

There are a lot of VERY smart people over there that don't put up with the typical crap from stupid posters, and there are some very knowledgeable people that discuss everything from TV shows, MMA, current events, or even societal abnormalities. And yes, some very juvenile things come up every now and then. There is also a LOT of great "real life" advice to be had.

The BEST part is that there is a zero-tolerance "no religion, no politics" policy.

It's not for everyone, but it's part of my daily routine, and I quite enjoy it.

Great signal:noise, and they don't suffer fools lightly. If you're an idiot, expect to be banned within your first couple of posts, or to be ruthlessly ridiculed. Or both.

9. The most valued asset here is not looks or coolness, but funny. If you write funny posts, you can do just about anything.

This is a good statement of the general theme of the board by one of the admins, mrjake:

"This board has a higher degree of very intelligent, literate posters (especially amongst the mods) than just about any other messageboard I've ever seen. My IQ easily qualifies me for Mensa (although I have no interest), and I consider myself one of the more middling intellects amongst the mods. You are dealing with people who are in the top 2 percentile of minds (well, some of them).

As such, the mods, and the people who come here because there is intelligent life here, are not apt to suffer fools. We have college professors, engineers, lawyers, doctors, professional writers, and people engaged in just about every other intellectual pursuit you can imagine. Wow I forgot about Tucker Max, it's been years since I fist read his site. I may have to pick that book up.

I've read it, good entgertaining stuff. Some will say the book has a bit of deeper meaning into it. They guy hoons around, getting excessively drunk at inopportune times and has crazy hookups. It's fun to read and most likely all pretty true to some extent. The deeper meaning is his realization of how much of a jackass he is and yet continues to ignore this throughout the book.

The fact that it became a bestseller inspired me to start looking into writing a book. Not that I would be writing a book of the same style, but in general that a person who has no prior writing experience (mind you he is a very very smart guy) have such a hit book.

What has been VERY interesting to watch is his growth as a person from the time he wrote that book to now, where he openly admits his faults, and is actively working on correcting them.

That and the Member's Booby Thread.

I read most of the stories on his website. I was disappointed when I read the book because it just a paper copy of the website. However, it did make for good airport reading on a recent vacation.
