I hate choosing an IOS - Cisco Geeks
Just a short rant. I hate trying to choose a new ver of code for a device. Maybe it's because I'm not a gambler.
Yeah, read the release notes, do a bug scrub, that still just makes you an educated gambler. It used to be back in the day with CatOS that they said always go with the newest. That was nice. But IOS has never been like that. And these days there are a 100 choices. I guess it could be worse, years ago when there were 100 different feature sets and 10 different versions per feature set..... Fortunately today, it's just for a 3560. In my experience, the switch code is more stable than than the router code. |
Call TAC. LOL

Is there a safe harbor release for that platform? That's typically what I stick with...I'lll look when I get into the office.

I feel ya, I used to talk to TAC (when I could get the guys from Belgium) and then I think they got in the same boat as everyone else; it's a crap shoot.
You are doing it right 12.4 (15)T'ish and look for pertinent bugs. So much more now depends on what "features" you need so you have to go with the feature navigator to find a suitable version, then make sure you have the RAM and flash, yadda yadda..... P.S. I prefer the term "dateless parental basement supervisor" thank you very much. |
I actually used to work on the TAC years ago, outsourced but here in Houston. We were always told not to recommend anything. Especially for routers, there's just way too much depending on the IOS. For the switches it wasn't too bad. At least the main thing is just picking the version, not many feature options. These switches came with a non-crypto code so I couldn't enable SSH, I had to upgrade.

It's really not all that bad...I much rather deal with Cisco software any day rather than Microsoft ;) Anyway I'm running 12.2.50 on some of our 3560's worldwide, but most of them are running older code such as 12.2(25) and have been 100% stable:
ROM: Bootstrap program is C3560 boot loader BOOTLDR: C3560 Boot Loader (C3560-HBOOT-M) Version 12.2(25r)SEE4, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) ****-3560-1 uptime is 51 weeks, 1 day, 9 hours, 0 minutes System returned to ROM by power-on System image file is "flash:c3560-ipbase-mz.122-35.SE5/c3560-ipbase-mz.122-35.SE5.bin" Good luck! |

I prefer anything beta. Alpha is even better. Makes things more fun.
