A funny thing happened on the way to the house

So, SWMBO and I were returning home about 9:00 Saturday night and had just turned up our street. It's dark, and there's no street light at this particular spot, so I wasn't sure exactly what I caught out the corner of my eye, but my wife was. As we turned the corner, a teenager standing on the side of the road leans towards us and says something. Diana said the kid was asking for help. I stopped the car and turned back around to see what's up.

And what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a goofy teenager pinned to a speed limit sign with plastic packaging wrap, 100% immobilized. Apparently he and his brother get into "Prank Wars" and this was his brother's salvo. He said he'd been there an hour and a half before we finally stopped to help.

Diana got out and set him free, but we haven't had that good a laugh for weeks.

I'm old enough to feel comfortable muttering "kids these days", but every now and again I come across something like this that gives me hope for the future.

And you did not call the cops?

Child protective services should have been notified IMMEDIATELY.

Why the kid could have peed himself or something similarly life scarring.

You thoughtless uncaring idiot.

No cellphone pictures?

I don't know, that doesn't seem right to me. Glad you happened by and helped. Here in the ghetto, I won't unlock the door if I'm even out after dark. Our unemployment hit 12% with the neighboring city at over 18%! The muggings are coming as they did in the early 90's.

SWMBO? ...I don't get out much :)

Schumi 03-09-2009 10:23 AM

heh... SWMBO- had to look that one up...

Sounds like an old fashioned prank gone on a bit too long. maybe should have taken the kid home and talked to his parents?

I heard a story of a guy who worked in a grocery store distribution center being plastic wrapped put on a pallet and shipped to a store...

Good stuff. How did they get him still enough to wrap him? Truely the work of a master.

I didn't ask, but from his demeanor I figured this was more of a cooperative game - e.g. "I dare you to let me plastic wrap you to this post". The guy was in no way distressed or panicky - he was laughing too. Certainly grateful that someone stopped. I'm glad we were those people.

That's a pretty good prank! Now it would be hilarious (but terribly scarring) if they had stripped him naked THEN saran wrapped him to the sign. With a sheep in the appropriate position... ;)

that was a perfect opportunity to take a pic with him....before you set him free of course.....
fail :D

i saw a similar prank once except it was an employee outside a bar who the co-workers got......

Amail 03-09-2009 02:47 PM

Epic fail - it didn't even occur to me 'till the next day that I should have taken a cell phone picture.

Back when I was 15 we were all partying at a buddies house, another guy that we didnt really hang out with, passed out drunk. I cant remember who's bright idea it was, but he ended up duct taped to a chair out by the mail box. The local police were not amused. Thank god it was 1985, and not now, or we all probably all would have ended up in a juvenile detention center. Ahh memories!!

When my son was in high school he got a few of his buddies to help him Saranwrap his girlfriend's car while it was parked in our driveway. She of course, was suitably agast to discover its condition (they must have used four rolls. She did considerable amount of whining while unwrapping the thing but deep down probably took it as a sign of his love for her. Alas, he had a different date for prom that year.

Ah, the good old days!

onewhippedpuppy 03-09-2009 06:29 PM

We had a roommate pass out drunk one night. We lifted up his mattress with him in it, folded it like a hot dog bun (cheap bed), and carried it outside. We then set up his bed frame on the front porch. Now you must understand, we were the first apartment on the ground floor next to the parking lot, so everyone in the complex had to walk past our apartment to get to their cars. He woke up in the morning in his bed, wearing only his boxers, on our front porch, in a pool of his own urine. The sound of some girls laughing woke him up. Good times.....:D

a frat brother passed out on the couch, so we hauled him and the couch onto the campus, and left him next to the Eternal Flame. Several kegs later, he comes walking up the street carrying the couch on his shoulder.
