Yeah, but they went away for a while. Now they're the new design cliche, and every POS car with donks also features Pep Boys stick on vents or portholes. Oh yeah, and a $130k Porsche.

My god, the Aston and the Maser are both stunning. Truly beautiful cars.

The Panamera actually looks really good from the back, IMHO... it's the front that's ungodly ugly. It looks like an aborted GM design.

Porsches have never exactly been on the cutting edge of beauty, though; they've always been attractive, in their own quirky, unique way, but hardly ever beautiful in the way that a Ferrari is beautiful. Still, I think that the front end of this thing is waaaaaaaaaay over-styled. Give me a 993's simplicity any day.

One of the ugliest cars ever, of any marque. Hideous lines, cluttered console -- just monstrous. And a symbol of excess in time when this is out of tune with the economy, and the evolving social climate.

That said, I think they will sell reasonably well, limited by the economy. To my eyes the modern porsche buyer is more interested in making a statement of exclusivity than anything else -- and this DOES make a statement. Not one I'd like to make, mind you.

"but is see most of you that have chimmed in havent bought a 911 less than 20yrs old"

Wrong. Just bought a new BMW and a new Porsche. Love cars, love Porsches and very high income- I'm as squarely in their "market" as anyone could be.

But Porsche missed the mark- by a mile. When I look for another four door it will be at someplace other than the Porsche dealer I promise. I hate faux snob appeal and I hate ugly cars.

I'll reserve judgements until the magazines tell me what to think;)

(the Aston Martin is just plain gorgeous)

I really don't know what the guys in charge were thinking. That front end is just so... cluttered! Too many lines, angles, fake intakes. It looks WAY over-styled. I still think that the back of the car looks good, though - very modern 928.

Come to think of it, almost all of Porsche's designs from the late 90s-onward have been pretty uninspired. The Boxster Concept was great-looking, but the road car is just okay; it's nice enough, but kinda bland. I love the Cayman's flying buttress-style rear window area, but the car only seems to look good in dark colors, for some stupid reason. The Cayenne? Give me a break. The 996? One of the ugliest cars that Porsche has ever made, IMHO. The 997? A HUGE improvement over the 996, but it still looks bloated and lacking in a sense of design unity when parked next to a 993, or even a 964.
