Bugatti Veyron Sighting

Not Porsche related, but C'MON!

I was on Potrero rd. dropping into Hidden Valley (just west of Westlake Village).

The driver was playing around a little, swerving lane-to-lane slalom style. I accelerated to get a closer look - that's when he decides to test the brakes!!! He didn't know I was there. I stopped in time, but it was just shy of a panic stop. That car can S, T, O, P!

Then we took a 90 degree right hand turn, and he hit it.... Whoa. I tried to keep up, but not a chance -- don't think he even used all the horses, cause that car will go 262 mph.

Anyway, after that we both cruised at the speed limit as there was an LA county sheriff about a 1/2 mi. ahead.

Here's a Top Gear vid:

Anybody seen that car, or know who it was?

262mph? Ummm....

There are a few Veyrons in your area. What were the colors?

Porsche-O-Phile 03-11-2009 01:54 PM

Probably some Citibank exec.

Enron!

Silver/Grey

About the top speed - I got that from the vid link. 407 kph, then did the conversion.

There's a cool episode where they have a Veyron "race" a Eurofighter. Pretty funny.

It wasn't Jeremy. He's in New zealand right now.

On a recent TG episode, they finally tested a Veyron around their TG track (w/Stig). It could only do 4th best, not bad for a relatively heavy but powerful car on their short track.

Naw -- I looked over hoping it was Jeremy, but no.

A year ago I read that Simon Cowell (sp?) from American Idol bought one. Maybe that is who it was.

Your braking story is a good lesson to remember -- just because you have great "hand of God" brakes doesn't mean the guy behind you does!

I have only seen one in person, at Rennsport Reunion III of all places. Cool car, but I couldn't ever see spending that much $ on a car. I would rather buy several even cooler cars -- a Carrera RS for one.

Heck, the Veyron doesn't even have a cigarette lighter! I could not drive a 1001 hp car without my V1!

Porsche-O-Phile 03-11-2009 06:32 PM

If you can afford the Veyron, you can afford the ticket.

450knotOffice 03-11-2009 06:33 PM

The Veyron is the top car on my list of fantasy cars (road cars I mean).

911pcars 03-11-2009 07:30 PM

The rear view is through a tunnel-shaped opening. That's totally unsuitable for town driving. That's why I didn't buy one; that and the $2,065,902 dent it would put in my bank account. :)

As for acceleration of the Veyron, watch the video on Youtube where one races an original Ruf Yellowbird. The race is a rolling 2nd gear start where the Yellowbird is up on boost and has traction....the Veyron destroys it. It's like the Yellowbird is stopped and the Veyron just drives away. We all know how fast the Yellowbird is, but the Veyron is in another league all together.

I just watched the Ruf video. HOLY CRAP. The Ruf is a fast car - faster than most of us will ever drive - but that Veyron? That's incredible.

Porsche-O-Phile 03-12-2009 02:44 AM

That's just filthy.

I had a little race with a Bugatti with the Ford GT. My GT is a little modded and it has possibly 670hp at the crank.

Now if you think about power to weight ratio the comparison is not too bad...

Veyron 1001hp for 4160lbs = 4.16 lb/HP
Ford GT 670hp for 3400lbs = 5.07 lb/HP

We were doing around 80mph, with the Bugatti leading. I was 5 car lenghts behind. As the traffic was clearing I saw him going in attack mode (I think you push the sport button and the big wing at the back comes up, the ECU changes throttle response and kickdown is quicker).

When the last car cleared in front of the Bugatti I gunned it in 3rd. The Bugatti kicked down (you could see the unburnt fuel coming out the quad exhaust) and off he went.

By the time we were doing 170mph he had possibly gained 2-3 car lenghts. I thought it was not too bad and we both let off and returned to 80-90mph cruising.

I had the chance of sitting in one and looking at it properly... I think I'd rather own an F40 or a Miura or a Pagani Zonda or a McLaren F1.
The Bugatti is an incredible car, but I doubt the driver even felt any adrenaline going through when we raced... You know push sport, kick-down, and freigh train speed is acheived.

Not for me...

I spotted one here in Malibu last fall...

get this

It was painted.........baby blue

NO JOKE! must have been either a custom color or something because once they stopped I got a closer look and the interior was baby blue & white ostrich

The guys driving were....uhhhh....
let me just say there was a ton of bling and a large clock may have been sighted hanging from one of their necks ;)

Just when you thought you'd seen it all..........
