I've got to go out in this car with some people for awhile
A friend in CA recommended that a friend of his contact me about a couplea rifles that he had. He wanted some help in identifying and giving some order of value. So today the guy drives up from CA, and we arrange to meet in front of one of my favorite spoon merchants here in town. I spot hm and park next to him, introduce myself and he opens the trunk of his car and pulls out this rifle. I notice the store owner walking across the parking lot with one of his employees. I said, "I need to talk to you John," We walks over and says please don't show those guns here in front of my store. He points over his shoulder and says that the guys in the Merlot with metal flake Expedition are BATF Agents. So I gets in my truck and the guy from CA gets in his car and we park a little further back in the indusstrial complex. So the guy show me the other rifle and and I am giving him the all the information about the rifle when the Merlot with metal flake Expedition pulls up and guy flashes his ATF Badge and says what tiz happenin here my man..well not quiet that way...I exagerate....Anyway we start to explain that about who we are and what we are doing in the back of an idustrial complex while holding a US military contract rifle (in other words pissing our pants)....about that time a second car pulls up with an Asian American BATF agent and I wind up talking to her. After about five minutes we convince them that we are harmless and that there is nothing to see here so they gets in their cars and drive off to harass other honest god fearing American citizens...Ya see the Military rifle I was holding was a model 1816 US Military Flintlock Musket and the other was a halfstock Percussion rifle from 1860.

Why dont you do these types of things in a more private place where there is less chance of harassment?

The ATF has inspectors and agents. The inspectors go around doing compliance checks on FFL holders, the agents apparently do more of the dirty detective work. Do you know which type you met? The only ones I have had come in are inspectors. I don't imagine I'm the only FFL holder who gets a bit nervous to have one stop in, as they have the power to shut you down. And every shop has violations. What was the occasion to have them at your favorite merchant of death? I've never had a tag-team visit.

Why are ATF agents hanging out in front of a spoon store?

You don't want to stand on the business end of a spoon.
