04 Ford Power Stroke 6.0L

I am looking at a 2004 with the 6.0L power stroke. I did a little research and found some issues.

Any issues I should be prepared for?

I have a customer who had to install new injectors around 75K and he said this is a common issue--cost 3K.

I believe I read something about pending litigation between International (manufacturer of the power stroke) & Ford.

Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Is that the year with the head stud problems or did they come a couple years later?
Injectors are cheaper than the ones in my chevy (problem as well).
That lawsuit is true...what a commercial for Ford.

I am not a Ford fan but in reality any of the equivalent trucks are going to have other shortcomings that will balance stuff out. I went with Chevy when I bought mine because I wanted the Allison trans even though I prefer the Cummins over the Duramax. When I started looking I started checking out a couple forums on the specific trucks that I was considering and was able to get a lot of info that way.

I'm told anything after '03 and your good. The 7.3L is suppose to be better though?
An '04 6L you should be OK?

I'm in the market for one now too; likely gonna go diesel again.

I've said it before here: Buy a 2005-2007. There were significant chassis changes in '05. The newer the better for motor updates and reliability. I have a 2007 with 103K miles and it's been very trouble-free.

What kaisen said, and they're cheap. Look on eBay. If you buy any 6.0 truck that is still under factory warranty, (under 100k miles), you can extend the factory powertrain coverage out to 200k and 7 years from original date of service for under $2k. The newer the truck the better for this because of the time portion of the coverage.

Anyone who's interested in this let me know, I'll put you in touch with a good guy at Ford who can sell you that warranty.

You've read the 1 ton diesel thread. We have both:
2007 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab Short Box 'Harley Davidson' 4x4 6.0 Powerstoke
2007 GMC 2500HD 'Classic' Crew Cab Short Box 4x4 6.6 Duramax

The Ford has 103K miles (drove it briefly this morning), purchased July '06
The GMC has 21K miles, purchased June '07

Both trucks have been absolutely trouble free.

The GM has the better powertrain in many, many ways (read other thread)
If you are thinking GM, look at a late 2006 or early 2007 'Classic' bodystyle (NOT the new bodystyle!)
That truck will have the LBZ engine: 360hp / 650 lb-ft (with NO particulate regeneration emissions B.S. like the new trucks) and have the 6 speed Allision.
You need to look at the 6th digit of the VIN and make sure it is a 'D', that is the way to be sure it is the LBZ motor / 6 speed Allison.
