Thread For Dreams And Dream Analysis

Anyone interested in dream interpretation? I'm going to start a thread for dreams, either recurring or one you've just had.

Here is a dream I have just woken up from (4 am in my hotel)

"I am driving a old style car. It looks like a 1920s model, with wing fenders and a boat-tail cabin, but modern interior and running gear. The car is extremely powerful, accelerating like a jet plane. I'm driving fast on a long sweeping curve. The car keeps trying to oversteer and I have to reach back, grab the rear fender, and physically push the rear end into line. I have owned the car for many years, but only recently took it out of storage. I decide to sell the car. A friend sends me an old photo of my then wife taking our child out of the car. The woman is Stephanie Zimbalist. I get in the car and go back in time, it feels like ten or twenty years, and park outside our old house. Entering, I meet: my friend who had sent the photo; my father; and an imbecile who, I remember, had died shortly after that. They all seem aged, while I feel young and uplifted. This is odd, I think, as I am the one who is 20 years older. My ex-wife/Zimbalist enters the kitchen and greets me. She is apparently unaware that I am visiting from my future. She looks wonderful. We banter, she starts to do the dishes, I ask her to stop and I promise to do them later. It is exciting to see her, and I enjoy seeing our old house and vaguely shabby old furniture. I go to the car and retrieve my digital camera. As I take snapshots of the people and house, I hope no-one will notice, as cameras are still film at the time. I ask my wife to go for a walk on the beach outside."

Hmm. I have no idea where Stephanie Zimbalist came from, although I have now Googled her snd see that she resembles my actual wife. I've never seen her in any show, AFAIK. What's with the weird car?

Do you have any dreams, or dream analysis, to share? Post your dreams here and we'll psychoanalyze you.

Porsche-O-Phile 03-17-2009 12:54 AM

It means you're sexually repressed. :p

jyl 03-17-2009 12:56 AM

The car, or Zimbalist?

911Rob 03-17-2009 01:28 AM

Ha, that's a funny dream.

I like waking up and telling my wife about my dreams; they're often weird. She tells them to the kids and they all laugh at my expense. Kinda fun though.

Last night, after watching a couple episodes of Brotherhood on the DVD player I dreamt that some butcher cut up some fish, then another guy packaged them, but I was the numbers guy and I got pissed off at them because the fish pieces were too large and there weren't enough packages now to create a profit. Ha! It was all a gangster setting/theme.

Schumi 03-17-2009 01:34 AM

That's a weird one. Sounds like a lot of symbolism.

I had a reoccurring dream over the course of a few years that has happened a few times. I never remember all of it, but it involves normal events, like talking to people in a room, and then all of a sudden out of no where Tom Arnold shows up and we party and drink alot and then I wake up.

Haven't figured that one out yet.

I walk into a bar/restruant and there is this little old Chinese man who is being made fun of by all the guys int the bar. He asks me to carry him home as he is too old and weak to get home by himself. So I carry him home. Upon entering the house I ask him how old he is? He replys that he is 25,000 years old. I look down say, "I will never live to be that old." He says, "Yes you will."

You have rediscovered something that is making you feel powerdull and good. Which you are having a difficult time in controling. Then you decide to sell and that causes you to reexamine all the relationships of the people in your life. The people don't know that you have rediscovered something or you are hiding it. In osme ways it seems you are staying up withthe times whereas all the people in your life are staying with the familar.

Let's see . . .

You feel removed from reality when you travel. (time travel) You have some good ex-memories. (transferred to Stephanie Zimbalist to relieve guilt about them). You like old cars.

You are obsessed with making money. The gangster theme was just an overlaid recent memory.

You are substituting Tom Arnold for a good buddy you wish you had.

You worry that your life is meaningless.

My interpretation - I tried to recapture or reexperience something from my youth, it was too much to handle (aging?), I decided to move on, but first took a trip down memory lane. My aged friend and father in the past actually show the future, not sure who or what the soon-to-die imbecile represents (hopefully not me), Stephanie Zimbalist represents my wife as her younger self.

I told my wife about the dream this morning, she recalls someone once telling her she looked like the actress, perhaps I once knew that.

Well, more concretely, I have placed Remington Steele season 1 at the top of my Netflix queue.

Schumi 03-17-2009 07:16 AM

Remington Steele starred Pierce Brosnan, correct?

NICKG 03-17-2009 07:46 AM

ah...I love the Jungian psychology courses I took.....

jyl 03-17-2009 08:11 AM

Yes, Brosnan did the show before becoming Bond. I've never actually watched it but given the weak choices in current TV, I will take a look on DVD.

slakjaw 03-17-2009 10:05 AM

I had this dream once, its not a recurring thing. I thought it was funny so I wrote it down.

It was like in the movie Terminator,
The machines had started taking over the planet right. The machines were
enslaving the humans. What humans that were left had taken to hiding in
corn fields and the like. In my dream they were after me. So I went into
a Regen (a small sprint building in the middle of nowhere that has
telephone equipment inside it) I was hiding in this thing. Then in my
dream I could hear people gathering outside. Except they were chanting
something, I listened closely and I could hear them they were chanting
ANN COULTER ANN COULTER ANN COULTER ANN COULTER over and over. (WTF?) Then I peeked outside the door and I saw ann coulter
dressed in an American flag.
So I shut the door really fast then they all went out into the corn
fields looking for new humans to enslave

slakjaw 03-17-2009 10:06 AM

My recurring dream is about nukes going off all over America. Sometimes I live others I am killed in the blast. They are not good dreams.

slakjaw 03-17-2009 10:11 AM

I generally think that dreams don't have any meaning. Although I dreampt that my gramma died on Feb 13th, and she did.

911Rob 03-17-2009 10:14 AM

That's freaky slakjaw!

911Rob 03-17-2009 10:18 AM

I read a little Freud and he talked about dreams and I've touched on the subject here and there, but it never really interested me? I do feel that its an extension of our lives though. My wife dreams about "out of body" experiences where she flys around.

I'm taking my pilots license training and its a ton of reading, more than I really care for as its taken me off my regular cycle; kinda overwhelming to think about all the stuff I've gotta learn before I get to fly my plane. Good thing I bought the plane first?

Anyway, I keep dreaming about flying lately. Some weird stuff.

Ha! Ya think?

I watched too many old gangster movies and was always attracted to the tough guy characters too.

I'm working on a RE deal right now with another guy that has very similar background credentials as me; Engineer, Realtor, Developer. He's a very nice man that has a simple outlook on life. During our negotiations he wasn't concerned about the bottom line, just that it was a good deal for everyone involved. You can tell when you deal with him that he's a man that follows his priorities very well; I like that. I've been reflecting on this gentlemans demeanor lately and thinking of making another life style change; involves going off flying and enjoying life. I'm gonna make it happen, but it has scared me to cut off the 'cash flows'?

Cheers,
