Gold Plated Porsche - Read it?

Just wondering what other Pelicans thought about this book. I am in the middle of it now and so far it is ok. I do not read alot of books, but this one still has my attention so far. More of a review the further I read.

Yeah, I was hoping to hear some unbiased opinions/thoughts from others, but that might be the case ;-)

Great book I would recommend strongly. Strong Porsche and aviation content, my favorite subjects. Fun reading for anyone.

I read it and enjoyed it. Anyone who has a passion for a 911, modifies it and then writes a book about it is OK in my opinion. How could that not be a good nook?

Read it and gave copies in paperback to all my Pcar buds for Xmas this year. Everybody enjoyed it, as did I. A quick read...took me about 2-3 hours (but I am a fast reader).

If you're expecting it to be a detailed manual on Porsche restoration, you'll be disappointed. I enjoyed for revealing one man's interesting life experiences...Porsche's and planes are the backdrop for his journey.

The author posts mostly in the technical sections of the forum and is quite enteraining and enlightened. His Pelican handle is "Formerly Steve Wilkinson." A good guy.

I received a couple of copies as gifts. Not trying to be a jag towards SW as I haven't read much of it, but as unbiased as I can be I have to say my first attempt to read it didn't leave me with a desire to finish the book. I'm spoiled with the style of Eagan and Levy for auto-books, but I promised myself to finish SW's book....even if it's just to finish it.

SW's book is a good weekend read then pass it on to some one else. Eagan's writing is far and above anyone else!

The book was an interesting read - a sort of "Zen and the Art of Porsche Restoration" without all the analysis of philosophy. It's worth a read... I might give it a 2nd read-through once the school year is over and I don't have 2 English preps to teach!

I haven't read this book. BUT what really anoys me about (other) Porsche books is they skip the SC. I just put the book down, walk off, and start reading in the guns section.

What we need is a book written where the 911SC is the star of the show and all those unimportant cars like the 917 get forgotten about

I liked it. But I always wanted to see some pictures of the car.
Edit: Found them in the thread linked on the next page.

Good book. The star is a 1983 SC, so there you go.
