Yep, the one on the left.

Freddie Mercury was gay too you know.

Got any pictures of him making out with anyone?

PS: Lambert is supposedly bi. There are videos of him in you tube gettin' nasty with some chicks too. LOL.

Get used to the face, this guy is the best naturally gifted male singer i have heard since Freddie Mercury died. In-cred-i-ble.

Not. I've seen one episode. The hostess is butt ugly, but she's got legs!

Beyond that, the show is rank.

Sorry, I just don't have any desire to watch it.

My understanding is that it takes a bunch of desperate attention-whores with marginal talent and pits them against one another in a setting where somehow a panel of "experts" can somehow evaluate their career potential after watching them sing a 30 second song. Uh huh. Yea, that's valid.

I can't stand "manufactured" stardom, be it in music, movies, drama, art, sculpture or whatever. I've known too many good, dedicated people that languish in obscurity for years that have twice the talent and dedication of anyone on that show.

FWIW I had a former co-worker of mine try out for that trivia show in the late 1990s (the one with the mean-tempered redhead British chick, forget the name). Anyway he was paneled and flown out to NYC to audition. He got every single one of his questions correct but wasn't selected for the show because he wasn't "sensational" enough. Instead a couple of people that were flamboyant and showy (but scored in the 80s and 90s) got picked. Ridiculous. It's pretty obvious that talent counts for little on these sorts of programs.

PoP, why so angry all the time? Escape a little and watch a reality show. ;)

Kelly Clarkson, Kerry Underwood and Chris Daughtry are superstars- legitimately so. It's hard to go an hour on an alternative/mix station without hearing at least one of them on the radio. Really if you include all the idols, incudling the non winners, Idol alumni are a dominating force in the record charts. I think at one time cook had 8 of the top 11 songs on the charts- a feat that only the Beetles have exceeded.

Jennifer Hudson, an idol loser won an Oscar for her role in the movie Dream Girls. Ever seen it? If you do, keep in mind she is not even in the top 5 of the stars to come out of that show so far. Maybe not even in the top 10.

Kelly Clarkson was to me by far the best winner the show had ever produced. Well the guy this year is even better than her. Do yourself a favor, find Adam Lambert's performances on You Tube, sit back, and prepare to be seriously "wowed".

The songs they sing on the show are typically about 1:30-2:00 in length and they are backed by Ricky Minor's band. Some of the arrangements are spectacular. David Cook did a rocked out version of Billy Jean last year that was out of this world, and Lambert's take on Johnny Cash's ring of fire from this season SCREAMS Led Zeppelin Kashmir.

I honestly cannot wait to see what the guy does next. He blows me away.

I agree that Adam Lambert is enormously talented. I think he's holding back his "Freddie Mercury Moment" for the finals. He'll bring the house down with Bohemian Rhapsody.

The gay thing doesn't matter even a little to me. Watching Idol with my teenage kids I mentioned that I thought Lambert was probably gay and my kids abused me about being old and out of touch. They said he was just "hip" and "edgy". I emailed the kissing pic to both my kids. I'm so rarely right these days...

Anyway, I agree. He's the most talented contestant by far. But I really like Danny's voice better.

cantdrv55 04-03-2009 01:22 PM

I don't see what the big deal is with that Adam girl. All he does is scream those high notes. He's a one trick pony. The fellas that can play an instrument and sing well are most deserving of the win, IMO.

m21sniper 04-03-2009 02:29 PM

Adam has a tremendous low register too. If he doesn't have true 4 octave range he has damn close to it. What a voice, i would kill to be able to sing like that....

I like Danny Gokey too, he is a great singer, but he is not a "star."

Adam is a super star to his very core- he has that rare "X factor" that is the difference between a star and a super star.
What i like about Adam more than Danny, and what makes him a true super star IMO is his edgy risk taking performances. His Ring of Fire was absolutely wild acid-rock at it's finest. Led Zeppelin was the inspiration i am sure.

I think Lambert is the only idol who could actually have beat Kelly Clarkson in a head to head match up. To me she was by far the best previous Idol winner...that woman can absolutely blow up any song she sings. She does a lot of classic rock covers in her concerts that are better than the originals.

To wit:

I take crap for it, but I'm really compelled by this season's AI. Lambert really should win. Far and away the best. There might be a segment of voters that are turned off by the "edgeyness" however, and prefer the "straighter" approach of someone like Gokey.

It's too bad Tatiana and Normund Gentile aren't around, still.

m21sniper 04-03-2009 02:47 PM

I suspect if any idol hater watched a top 10 performances list they'd be forced to change their evaluation of the show- if they were in the slightest bit honest to themselves.

The upper crust of Idol contestants are anything but marginally talented. To the contrary, some of these people are so mind bogglingly good that it is beyond comprehension they hadn't already been snatched up by talent scouts.

How the hell does someone with the talent of a Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood or Adam Lambert go undiscovered for so long?

+1

I never really saw Clarkson, or AI, until after she won. I dismissed the show w/o really giving it a chance. I saw her on Leno or something and realized she's legit. She is the gold standard that show has produced, but yeah, Lambert is bad-ass. I'm all in, now.

My wife and I were out to dinner w/some old friends, another couple, from out of town on Wednesday. I was reluctant to bring up AI, but it turns out they are big fans too. They missed it since they're on vacation, so they came over to watch Tues and Wed's shows on DVR. It was pretty fun, especially since my buddy is a Gokey fan. To think, the first few seasons, I was the guy ripping people for even wasting their time to watch that "crap".

m21sniper 04-03-2009 02:58 PM

Have you ever seen Kelly's AI performances?

If you haven't do yourself a favor, go check them out on You Tube.

Here's a sample:

She is a lights out singer.

She is a lights out singer.

Yes, many times. ;) I'm a fan. I really liked that acoustic thing she did on VH1 a few years back.

pwd72s 04-03-2009 06:37 PM

What I hate about the show is that it's 45 minutes of talking for every 3 minutes of singing...I get bored with all the BS...makes me want to pull some old vinyl off the shelf.

m21sniper 04-03-2009 08:18 PM

More singing would be good.
