I am sick of going to the bar alone and having some drunk fool try to pick a fight with me. it has happened 3 times this week. I am doing nothing other than being there, I didn't say anything to any of these losers. Last night some dude wanted to fight me for whatever reason and after I said get a life he punched the brick wall then jumped around like a monkey holding his hand. WTF is wrong with people?

Are you a big guy, 6'3+? I've had a couple of friends that were big guys that got that a lot. Stay out of dive bars.

My brother-in-laws father tried to pick a fight with me at a bar.

I'd bought him a beer, trying to be a nice guy, and he apparently resented it.

He kept making comments trying to rile me up, so I had enough and I dumped him out of his wheelchair and kicked him.

(Just kidding. He's not in a wheelchair but he did try to taunt me. I just turned around and walked away.)

Happens to me all the time, since junior high school.

Just a couple weeks ago, we're in a pub with our wives and some drunk comes over and pushes me. I said to him, "what are you an idiot?, gotta pick a fight with the biggest guy in the bar? (laughing) You better go sit down or you're gonna get hurt"

He pushes me again; just a small drunk guy. So I grab him by the shoulders and kick his feet out from under him, but holding him from falling. Then I tell him again, go sit down or you're going to get hurt. At that point his buddies came over and saved his butt.

I'm 49 now, and my wife HATES fighting, so I'm settling down; but back in the day that woulda just been a one punch fight.

Depends on how you carry yourself and how you act. I'm 6'1" 180 and have never been in a fight. But I don't go looking for one or talk back to someone that is a jerk-off. It takes two to have a confrontation.

I'm 5'8" too.

Used to get harassed like crazy in high school by bullies in 9th grade. That all ended in 10th grade after i seriously damaged a few harassers in a semi-permanent fashion.

No one really messes with me anymore. But i also get the "you look like a crazy mofo" feedback a lot, so that probably helps. How you carry yourself is a huge key in how violent criminals, bullies, and drunks interact with you.

I generally avoid bars like the plague. (I bartended all through the 90s, so i've had my fair share of that scene)

i am not particularly tough. but i am big. and i dress like something out of road warrior. it's rare for people to mess with me.

it's environmental/cultural. working class bars in the mid west see this as entertainment. got caught up in a massive old west salon type brawl in moline with a bunch of meat packers once. scary.

Might wanna be careful when/where you try that. A lot of small guys have a Napoleon complex (I call it the "Chihuahua Complex") and have to prove to themselves or their buddies they're tough, even though they're diminutive. These are the guys who will pull out a knife or other weapon (or come back with a surprise attack when you're not looking) instead of duking it out "fairly".
