Unexpected fatherhood. Tonights tale from kids hospital.

Working yet another gruesome night at the children's hospital. Among the usual flood of a variety of diseases, you sometimes find a gold nugget story. This one is short and sad but still heart warming.

In comes a guy in his thirties, Arabic heritage, with his 8 months old daughter. His visit concerns a few days of fever and coughing. Medically nothing fancy, main stream tedious cold. His story is however not main stream father ship.

His daughter is his first child. At her birthday, when she was born, he was there to witness and hold his first born. The next day the mother tells him to leave, its over and she moves away. He is left heartbroken and lost, with no contact what so ever with his daughter.

Then, suddenly, 5 days ago he receives a phone call. Its the mother, from whom he has heard nothing for eight months. The short message is that he has got exactly 20 minutes to come to the railway station in the city and pick up his daughter. If he does not make it she will leave their daughter to the social service. She is moving abroad. Like now. She hangs up.

He rushes to the appointed station, gets his daughter, mother leaves.

So there he is. Holding his daughter that he has not seen since they day she was born, 8 months ago. Not the first clue as to how to take care of a baby. He says to me that, there in his arms, his daughter looked up on him and broke out the most lovingly smile. Right there he knew. No matter how little he knew about taking care of children, they were going to be alright. He was down right shining from love and affection for his daughter, who by the way was cute as a button.

Awesome story, Markus.

I know that beaming smile that is true love when I look at my daughter.

A Daddy's love is a powerful thing, it is. Of course, you already know a coupleof times over, huh?

Good luck to the man in the story. I hope his life is full of happiness from now on.

Take care, my friend.

Geez Markus, I truly am foggy eyed. Of all we here on this site have experienced, the collective whole, it is the dads, yes the dads, like this guy that get ALL OF MY RESPECT!

Not to mention guys like you who, through thick and thin, do your deeds of healing. It is these things that mean the most.

Thanks for sharing this story. The next time you see this guy tell him he inspires a bunch of sometime idiot gear-heads and touches the most tender parts of our hearts.

Well, good riddance to the mother. Can someone make sure the little girl gets to read this when she becomes, say, about 16?

It's amazing, how often this board is filled with bad news, or negative experiences. We rarely take the time to mention the good stuff.

Thanks Markus. Please post more.

Also, if you watch the TV show House, MD, then please tell us what they got wrong!

Markus that story made my whole day. Thank you for sharing that! Sometimes we forget that whereas it is the awful deeds people do that make the news, it's the wonderful things people do that make life worth living.
