My CV, Babs....
...and people still say James Brolin was overlooked by The Academy for his exemplary work in that film.
Kevin, were you involved in building that thing at George's place back in the day? Tim |
please tell more.

"The Car" circa 1977 Starring James Brolin. A "B" horror flick that has slowly developed a cult following. During my time at Barris Kustom, Universal came to Barris and asked for one of these cars to be built, quickly. Barris made one and it was delivered to the studio. The very first day of filming was the car launching itself thru the air and into a house. The stunt man (remember this is a B movie) misjudged the balance of the car and the stunt in general so badly that the car landed nose first so hard he swallowed half his tongue along with a couple of his own teeth! The car was bent almost in half, the floor under the front seat actually touched the ground below it. A second car was made and filming continued. The last scene in the movie was the car going over a cliff and exploding in flames. It was just after this scene was shot that someone realized they had failed to shoot about a half hour of the middle of the movie so a third car was built. How pissed do you think the studio bean counters were over that? The final where abouts of this third car have been a mystery for many years. A lot of people thought Barris had the car but he didn't. Some thought it was "lost" in the back lot of Universal somewhere.
There is a good chance that the car has been located. |

The Car
Recognized it instantly.
Saw it in the theater as a kid...twice! |
Thought it was Dennis Wever trying to get even with the Semi
|
oh, god. that is horrible.

I didn't think it was possible to make a '71 Lincoln more hideous than Dearborn did, but that car disproves my skepticism.
I saw the movie when I was a snotty little kid, and I found the car more comical than menacing even then. http://www.barris.com/gallery_cars/T...ery/thecar.jpg There's an artistry of sorts in that, I imagine. Tim |
that is the damn werecar from Futurama

As of today the person who was in possession of the car claims to "own" it. There are others who claim that they "own the rights" to it. The argument is that "you can "own the rights" till the sun don't shine but I "own the car" and you can't stop be from driving it or selling it if I want to.
This may be tied up for a while before the car see's the light of day again. But thats OK 'cause I'm getting paid storage. |
It's at your shop??? I'll be by tomorrow...
|
I didn't say it was at my shop, I said I was getting paid to store( spelled H-I-D-E) it.
