cervical crepitus
crunchy neck with pain for 8 years now
you have it? how do you like it? done anything about it and has it gone away? i cant bare it anymore....grinding and headaches...i feel like stuffing my mouth with a hand grenade sometimes chiro, pt, meds, surgery, TENS, what have you done? |
Had it for a long time.
Was at a conference and the hotel pillow was killing me. Was complaining to an associate and she said to get one of those memory foam pillows. Week later see them at Costco and figured WTF. Took some getting used to at first but have been virtually pain free for years. Still have the crepitus but no discomfort. Love that thing. http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=2&item=161803 |
I've had it too for longer than I can remember. I have not tried that foam pillow but I do shape my pillow to support my neck at night. If you are grinding, though, that is likely the source of your headaches. See a dentist and get a night guard...not cheap (but should be) but will likely prevent the headaches and other dental problems which can be serious as well.
No, I'm not a dentist...SmileWavy |
my mother was just about to toss one out. tried it and didnt like it. ill see if she still has it...she said it was like $200 and awful...i hope she has it cuz i aint spending $200 on a pillow. damn, i dont even own a bed. ive been literally sleeping on the floor for 18 years now. maybe thats my problem

i too shape my pillow but i think its adding to the problem at one time i did grind my teeth and i got a night guard. while sound asleep i would take it out and toss it clear across the room and then not find it for weeks...:) |

I paid $25 for mine. Was at least 9-10 years ago and it still has it's shape. See them all the time in the $15-30 range. It does take a while to get used to them. One or two nights does not cut it. |
+1000 on the memory foam pillow.
I had various minor back and neck problems when someone put me onto Tempurpedic mattresses and pillows. I was skeptical. They were expensive. In the end we sprung for them and haven't looked back. No more back or neck problems. The quality of the sleep we have now is much better. I could do advertisements for this product. Absolutely swear by it. You spend a third of your life in bed. It's really worth getting the best. |
Well I guess that makes me +1001 on the memory foam pillow.
I think I paid about $35 for mine at Costco. It might take a week or two for your body to adjust, and for you to find the positioning you like. Quit sleeping on the floor. Go out and get a nice pillow top matress and a decent pillow. You will sleep much better, and you body will have few aches and pains from sleeping odd positions. |
my neck has been crunchy forever. there's a pillow that will fix it?

We just picked one up a little over a year ago and it is absolutely killing my lumbar. I am being told that Pillow Tops are good for side sleepers but not necc good for stomach or back sleepers. Not saying firm is the best solution either. It's an individual thing. |

Memory foam may not give you the support you need. Up until a few years ago you could buy a sculptured pillow with one side higher than the other and a valley down the center longwise. I have a Tempurpedic mattress but I did not get their pillow. The Tempurpedic is really just 2-3 inches of memory foam over a stiffer foundation. Otherwise you'd sink to the floor.
Same thing happens with your head. Get some support. Something like this: http://www.thepillowplace.com/contoursupport.html Just make sure you get one that won't crush to nothing. Oh, and I have that grinding noise in my jaw every since a bad bout with TMJ 2 years ago. |

All teasing aside, I've gotten alot of relive from rolling up a towel into a tube shape, then laying a heating pad over it. The warmth seems to help me and the roll under the neck can be adjusted to just the right shape. anglea |
