how big is it? if i had to guess, i say CAT!
|
With teeth like those, it must've eaten meat. Canine or feline?
("Hillary?" that was hilarious! :D) |
Well varmint made quick work out of that! I didn't know lions teeth were that big--they're 2 1/4" long.
|
dealt with one of these for museum sciences class. big carnivores don't stop being scary just because they're dead.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1238169889.jpg how did he come by it? |
He bought it years ago at a taxidermy shop that used to be in Chicago.
|
damnit. i just poked my stiffed lion. nothing but sawdust in the head. taxidermist ripped me off.
|
i would guess a young cat. I say young because it appears that the bones in the lower jaw are still forming and blending into 1. Then again, I might be completely wrong as that animal might have a 2 pieced lower jaw.

African Lion, female about 4 years old.
The wear on the teeth shows scarring and injury indicative of heavy use (female lions do 99% of the hunting and eat after the males so they get more bone than steak). The skull bone joints (Sutures) tell the age. |

Southwestern African lion 4 years, 3 months, 12 days old. Went by the name of "Muffin" to her mate "Lazy Leo". Last ate a medium size gazelle named "Slowpoke" but got food poisoning and died 2 days later on April 23, 1953 at 7:23 pm in the rain. Left behind 4 small lion cubs named Eeny, Meeny, Miney and Spot. I could be wrong about the last cub's name...
