Cop that harassed NFL player "Sorry"

I MEANT TO PUT THIS IN PARF

Apparently this guy likes to harass celebrities:

Officer who detained Moats also arrested wife of Zach Thomas

The same Dallas police officer, who detailed Houston Texans' running back Ryan Moats while his mother-in-law was dying in a city hospital also arrested Maritza Thomas, wife of former Dallas Cowboys' linebacker Zach Thomas, after issuing her five citations, the Dallas Morning News reported.

According to The Morning News, on July 27, 2008, while her husband was at training camp with the Cowboys in Oxnard, Calif., Maritza Thomas was pulled over by Powell for an illegal U-turn near NorthPark Center.

Maritza Thomas was issued five tickets by Powell, four of which were later dismissed. Thomas was handcuffed, placed in the back of a police cruiser, spent about three hours in the Dallas County Jail and was threatened with the possibility of spending the night behind bars.

"This in no way compares to what happened to Ryan Moats and his family," said Zach Thomas, who played for the Cowboys last season and is now a free agent. "But we wanted to tell our story, not knowing how many others have been affected by Officer Powell. We know the vast majority of the Dallas police force are good and professional people, but this guy just seems excessive."

The charges that were dropped were failure to show proof of insurance, running a red light, having an improper address on a driver's license and not having a registration sticker on the windshield. She accepted deferred adjudication for the illegal U-turn charge, and her record will be cleared next month.

-------------------

There is nothing worse than a bad cop.

Arresting someone for a U-turn, what a *$%$%$(% douche.

In other dirty related cop news, ANOTHER Philly cop has been arrested by the feds for selling coke. Seems this one was a big time drug dealer before he decided to don the old Philly police blues.

WTF....

Saw that over the weekend.

I don't think I have too much of an issue with getting taken in for multiple violations like that.

Dallas is a weird place. They can and WILL tow your car if you can not show proof of insurance. They actually advertise it.

Still think Powell is a POS and his apology is not sincere, just him trying to save his a55.

Philly cops take your car here too, though not for insurance, but for registration or inspection. (this is big, big, big business here in philly)

I cannot imagine arresting a clearly upscale woman for a couple minor traffic violations. To me that is COMPLETELY over the top and beyond the pale.

Hmmm.... I'm sorry, I might be inclined to see the other side of this one. Has anyone seen the ENTIRE video? He ran 2 red lights, failed to stop for well over 5 minutes of lights and siren, all after dark, in a Yukon with VERY dark tint, and some bling on the 20 inch tires?

Sorry, in Dallas, you don't f with the cops.

When the vehicle made it to the hospital (OK, maybe it was a soon-to-be-father with a delivery-in-progress wife), the sister and wife bailed, and directly disobeyed officer's commands to 'Remain in the vehicle'... and walked into the lobby. The driver was belligerent, and was disreguading the officer's commands. He ended up throwing the vehicle documents (minus the insurance) at the officers' feet, and started to walk away as well.

My thought was that the driver was lucky he was alive, and not under arrest.

And that perhaps the officer deserved an apology.

But then, things have changed since 1/16/09, now being in the new age of entitlement.....

Lucky to be alive? For a few red lights and rolling up to a hospital? That is scary.

Yep, that was my thought too. I know considering what the truth of the matter was "All's well that ends well..."

But consider the big picture.

4 Oakland Cops gunned down in cold blood, two of them on a traffic stop. (Do you suppose the Dallas Cop had ANY part of THAT situation in his brain during this attempted traffic stop?)

I would have. How long could it have taken to actually STOP when lit up, made a quick explanation hell, give the cop my wallet and papers to keep...... and ASK for an escort to the hospital????

Yeah, big picture, I think it could easily have gone VERY differently.

I saw the video, the guy was pleading to see his dying parent before they passed away. and the guy repeated it serveral times. finally the family booked it inside and got a nurse to confrim what he was saying to the cop... but then the cop wouldn't even escort him inside. Ohh btw the light they ran was in front of the hospital...

Not sure what video you watched.

Was not 5 minutes was 40 seconds.

The distance from the red light to the parking spot is less than a mile.

The cop did not catch up to him until he was turning into the parking lot.

Moats was coming from Frisco which is N of the hospital. Fastest and only logical route for him was via the G. Bush Turnpike, also coincides with the video. Runs l-r in bottom of image. So he either ran the light at the end of the ramp or the light on the other side of the bridge, two green circles lower left. Powell would have been the red dot, he clearly crosses the bridge at the beginning of the tape.

The parking spot is the green square far right.

The scale on the map puts the distance from the 1st possible light to the entrance of the parking lot at ~2,500 ft. Last I checked that's less than a mile. First leg is 1,000 and the next is 1,200.

Based on the video and how long it took Powell to catch up I think Moats ran the light on the other end of the bridge or Powell would have been on top of him in a heartbeat. Also living down here most highway exits I encounter will go green and the light on the other side of the bridge is red because the opposite service road has also gone green.

The number 2 positions show where powell was when moats made the right turn onto Alliance. They are about 5-600 ft apart at that point.

Shot below shows where Powell was when Moats turned into the lot. About 100-150 ft apart. The patchwork/manhole cover on the road are clearly visible in the video.

And since when is it a crime to run around on 20 in rims? Should I tell my 5 ft tall white Jewish wife from Dix Hills Long Island that she is a target for police down here because of the rims on her Tahoe or were you implying something else? Don't bother to answer, you already have in your couple of posts on this thread.
