My wifes father and her grandfather both worked for the "Stewarts" in Montreal. The Stewart family owned MacDonald Tobacco. She grew up right on Mr. Stewarts estate property; lakefront, swimming pool, tennis courts, lush landscaped grounds, mansions, etc. I always kid her and her parents about it; teasing that she was raised thinking all of that was normal and now I'm paying the price for it; ha, ha. It's the furthest from the truth, my wife is a simple lady and so are her parents, I'm the one that always wanted what the rich people had ;)

Dottore, since you brought it up, who's the smoker in your avatar?

Hunter S. Thompson

For some reason I always thought it was Peter Sellers.

...indeed...HST himself...

Rick Lee, like most Pelicans, is a thoroughly charming gent in person. And really not bad in print, either. :)

Didn't you have a shot of Peter Sellers from Dr. Strangelove before HST? I don't know why I remember useless trivia like this... it must have been all that Canadian medicine we had in high school.

I think this is the quote and originator...

A woman is only a woman, but a good cigar is a smoke. ~Rudyard Kipling, The Betrothed

But this, so far, is my favorite:

Watching the smoke dance out of a cigarette is like watching a girl dance out of her dress. ~D.H. Mondfleur

I am surprised that we've had so few responses. Are there so few smokers in this crowd?

Too easy to go over the borderline into PARF territory I'd say? I'll have to wait and see.. I'm running out of things to give up. Your poll is missing some alternatives such as that.

Not the first time I've heard the Black Market idea come up though..

Not the best video but, it's the thought that counts.

Today it smoking, tomorrow it'll be .....?

They won't stop, they'll keep taking and taking so just because don't smoke don't think this is a good thing. It isn't.

To those who suggested they raise taxes even higher, I guess you can't read. This poll was for smokers.

Now, since you did reply to the poll, I respectfully suggest you go screw yourself.
Who the heck do you think you are dictating to others if they should smoke or not? It's none of your darned business and I will LOL when they start taxing your habits or hobbies to death. That will truly be funny. Not only because of the payback factor, but because you basically did it to yourself. you will have it coming.

our awsome NY governor recently proposed an "obesity tax" of about 15% on nondiet drinks.

where does it end? pizza tax? donut tax? bagel tax?

I think that's great!

In Switzerland your medical insurance premium varies depending on your BMI. The fatter you are, the more you pay.

Just waiting to sit on my cabin deck and enjoy a box of Habanos.....

They call it "sin tax" but what would they do without the sinners? Too many taxes in my opinion. If it affects your health, then charge more for health insurance, not a tax that gets gobbled up by the goobly gops?

Sammy, having a rough monday are we?
might want to lighten that up a bit, maybe go out for a smoke? Ha, ha.

Wife trys to quit, first time she gets beetchy I say F it, go out and have a smoke already will ya. Ha, ha.
