You said it.

Why does a bike that normally goes for twice what this guy is asking being sold for just $3864? Give the number a call (never know if it's being sold by a spiteful soon-to-be ex-wife), but don't be surprised if it smells like a scam.

usually the arbitrary prices ($8763 instead of $8800, for example) tend to be scammers.

does anyone suspect that some guy typed 1,000,000 kenyans dinars, or whatever the currency there is, in and the computer automatically converted it to some odd figure in dollars?

Well maybe I'm all wrong, then, and $3864 really is the new going rate for late model minty fresh 600 CBRs. What dreadful resale value for a Honda!

No, you aren't wrong. He has the bike listed "locally" all over the country. He also says to call him, yet he lists no tel. #. They are going for $6k ~ $8k+ on E-Bay.

Scam.

So I got an email back from Lt. John Cooper. Just hit the link and it worked, too.

Hello and sorry for the late reply. Hope I'm not too late and you didn't already purchased another bike.
I saw you are interested in my 2008 Honda CBR 600cc.Here are some details regarding the bike: 780 miles( it's like new ) - i gotta sell it fast because of my job. Rust free, no scratch and hasn't been involved in any accident( never been laid down ).This is one of the best bikes I have owned so far. The bike has a CLEAN title.I want this transaction to be smooth and I don't have much time at my disposal to waste with endless discussions. I believe $3,800 is more than a fair price.
You can reach me at (561) 283-1486 or you can email me if you are interested.

Thank you,
Lt. John Cooper

So let's see...it's advertised in Austin, El Paso and where else? Phone number is SoFLA. I'll be more than happy to take a look at it for anyone interested (assuming it is located in SoFLA), but I'm standing by my observation: Scam.

Update: Just checked my e-mails and I received the same response. Don't you think the bike would be sold by now? I e-mailed him back...we'll see.

This very same discussion is happening on another forum:

That CBR FastGSR was looking at...

I got an email back from the guy:

Seems legit but it is in Florida(561 area code). And he posted it all over the country and obviously for different prices. I'm not going to bother with it.

God...I hate being right all the time.

Just received "the hook" from our Honorable Lt. John Cooper (Phone line was down? It's a cell...):

The bike is at MacDill AFB, Tampa Bay, FL, where I am currently
stationed, until April 10th, when I will be deployed to Iraq (I'm a
US AirForce Lieutenant). This is why I must sell it before that date.
Shipping won't be a problem for me,being a military I have access to
some special facilities. I will take care of that, with no costs on
your end. This is a large amount and I would like to conduct the deal
using an authorized third party like Ebay using their Purchase
Protection Program, so this should eliminate any trust issues. They
will keep a deposit until the purchase is final, and you test and
accept the bike. If you will not get the bike as described, and also
a clean title you will receive your money back.

To be able to use this program you need to qualify. I have been
approved 3 years ago and I was very satisfied. So, if you are
interested in buying my bike just let me know your name and shipping
address.
I will forward these to eBay's protection program and wait for the approval.
The ad generated a great deal of interest and people have been
calling me non stop and the phone line was down for a while.

Thank you,
Lt. John Cooper

P.S. - If you call the number (local to West Palm Beach, FL), you get what obviously sounds like an overseas operator (English accent) recording asking you to leave a message.
