[QUOTE=70SATMan;4580006]I Got Sarah McLachlan flowin like warm butter.

Please tell me that is your idea of April Fools. You don't need this kind of speaker to nuance Sarah McLachlan.

Dr. Bose is very well known & admired for his ability to MARKET loudspeakers. You will note that I didn't say design. :D

Actually, Amar Bose is an outstanding and innovative speaker designer.

He just does not have really high fidelity as a goal.

I will grant you that, Randy.

About 8 years ago I got a new foam kit for a set of original 80's Heybrook HB1's (Great British Speakers IMO) from here;

http://www.speakerrepair.com/

Really easy job to do and my speakers are like new again. I honestly believe that store has everything you'd ever want.

The 80s were the 'glory' days for British loudspeakers. Heybrook, Rogers, KEF & B&W were all making great speakers through the late-70s & 80s. By the early 90s, most of them had faltered & had new oversea's ownership & unfortunately - a new direction. :(

ramonesfreak 04-02-2009 03:55 AM

ive got modern day B&W speakers and they rule. they still make outstanding hi-fi speakers

imcarthur 04-02-2009 04:05 AM

I will have to gracefully bow out of any discussion of current B&W designs. They are my main competitor & anything I say would be from a decidedly biased point of view.

But I do have my own opinions.

That's why you need to toss them thangs and get some proper speakers.:p:D I've always thought the Bose didn't sound as good until you were really starting to push them. I get amazing clarity and detail at low background levels. :)

I bought them when I was 16 so give me a break :D

I wouldn't use them in the house, but they work pretty good for the garage. Actually I listen to the stereo more in the garage than in the house so maybe I should upgrade ;)

I've got a set of those also and a Luxman r-361

I took them apart and they have a fake speaker in back

stealthn 04-02-2009 05:58 AM

Not to start a speaker war, but I did see a pair of B&W Matrix's cut away and WOW, the design and building in those was amazing. Probably why they are the best speakers I have ever heard.

How about that spray foam that expands? :D

creaturecat 04-02-2009 06:11 AM

"I took them apart and they have a fake speaker in back".

Passive woofer. It is called a passive woofer. 15".

...but, now I can close my eyes and pretend she is in the room with me.;):D

I've got two words for siren like vocals...........Amy Lee. My wife doesnt like it when I talk about her. Evidently my eyes glaze over...HA!

herr_oberst 04-02-2009 07:06 AM

I love female vocalists, too. Maria McKee, Loreena McKennitt, Margo Timmons from Cowboy Junkies, (Sara McLaughlin) and lots of others. I'll have to look up this Amy Lee person. Thanks for the tip

I've got a spare set of Heresys....:D

I do have to say I love the styling of the original 901s up on those funky stands.:) They do really well in rooms with space/arrangement challenges. They fill better in my opinion.

The vintage Klipsch are very directional and the placement/listening area is critical. The only exception would be the Klipschorns. If you have a nice large open room with good unobstructed corners they are exceptional.

I'm also starting to dabble with Diana Krall.

Amy Lee is the front for Evanescence. I heard her sing once a cappella during a radio interview while I was driving home from work a couple of years back. I just about drove off the road from not being able to concentrate.:D

are you being sarcastic?

ive lived with B&W speakers for 10 years. They astound me in their fidelity and build quality. Unless my speaker budget was over $10K for a pair, there is not a single speaker brand I would consider other than B&W. The rules change once you have $10K to spend on speakers in my opinion

Jared at Pelican Parts 04-02-2009 07:39 AM

Would 70's 15" RSLs be worth reconing?

No really. They didn't have any wires going to them either.

Guess I didn't have the right shade of green :)
