Learn Me On Cell Phone Location Tracking

I guess there are various sol'ns avail. The phone to be tracked in on AT&T, not sure of model. FWIW, the "tracker" has an iPhone, if that matters (she said one sol'n involved installing something on her iPhone to get results on that device). The easier the sol'n, the better. TIA

I am not sure about now but A few years ago I worked in the tech department at Cingular..now AT&T and we had a program that could track cell phone usage. I think only the management could log in. The FBI is one of the groups that make use of this feature. I remember one time they were tracking a missing child.

I am sure it has many nefarious uses. I am not up to date on the current climate on this issue but will check back for other answers.

I think we need to know the model of the phone being tracked.

Most phones come with GPS these days. Even if they don't have GPS they can be tracked to a "rough" location based on cell tower.

There is software/service that is readily available.

Some service providers, IIRC ATT being one of them do offer the service for phones that support the feature.

The one consistent factor for the consumer is you need to get your hands on the device to either install software or enable the service.

There's a ton of iPhone apps where you can keep track of friends across the city. Call up the app and you can see with GPS accuracy where each friend on your list is. However, I don't know if your 'friend' needs an iPhone, or has to agree to let their phone be tracked, or what.

Maybe look on the app store on the iPhone website, and the descriptions of the apps may help.

I get the feeling the motivation is a bit more clandestine?

Meaning the tracked does not know they are being tracked

There is www.mologogo.com. It's free and works with Nextel/Boost Mobile, Windows Mobile, Blackberry devices, maybe more. I think it can be tracked using any browser or data capably phone. I don't know much about it, but a friend had installed it a few months ago and had me look at it. I was busy at the time and don't remember much about it, but it did work and seemed to track in real-time. I remember watching him drive down the freeway...

Nice. Can't wait for someone's kid (or boss) to see that.

Miss Cleo predicts a trip to "banned camp" in your future.

It can't be done without the permission/cooperation of the "trackee", or if the "tracker" owns the phone/pays the bill (teenager, employee, etc.). If you have a search warrant, though...no problem.

CA Penal Code:

"No person or entity in this state shall use an electronic tracking device to determine the location or movement of a person." Penal Code 637.7 (a)

Not the first time that has been posted here. I see no banning for this user.

It is in violation of board policy. What if someone clicks that link at work and the IT dept. determines they were "surfing porn"? Fired. Poster should include a "NSFW" disclaimer.

But, what would you know. You're still living on mommy/daddy's dime. You haven't entered the working world yet...

Just because I am too young to live on my own doesnt mean I dont work. You should really think before you speak.

Oh personal attacks are also in blatant violation of the policy of this board.

Too young to live on your own? You graduated High School, no? You're not too young. There are soliders in (or on their way to) Iraq younger than you.

And, unless you know what it's like to be fired from your job for clicking on a link containing pornography, you should probably refrain from commenting, also.

Whoo-boy. Mouth, meet foot:

By federal law (10 U.S.C., 505), the minimum age for enlistment in the United States Military is 17 (with parental consent) and the maximum age is 35 (Note: Congress changed this to age 42 in 2006). However, DOD policy allows the individual services to specify the maximum age of enlistment based upon their own unique requirements.

So, when you signing up, tough-guy?
