Iphone question 519.7

Ok,

I can buy the iphone without a contract now, right? About $400? Also, I have unlimited texts but no data on my current plan. If I switch to the iphone, but not renew my contract I will retain my unlimited texts. I'll just add data to the plan.

Correct? Apple is way to confusing.

Really an AT&T question.

In my experience ATT have been very inflexible with regards to iPhone plans.

I did not have a data/text plan with my old phone. When I switched to the iPhone in January, I kept my old plan, paid the $30.- extra for data and expected to have to pay per text. When I looked at my most recent bill, I noticed that all my texts were free. You should still ask ATT, but I think text is included under the $30.- data fee.

When I got my iPhone, in Dec or Jan, text was not included in the $30/mo data plan.

Note that the new iPhone is coming, roughly June. In case you wanted to hold out a few months. But the new iPhone likely won't be available without a contract - I think (not confirmed) ATT is doing that to sell through inventory of the current iPhone.

OK, just double checked my last statement. They somehow added $15.00 for a text plan. I don't remember setting this up. Oh well, I'll just have to start abusing my text plan.

From everything I read about the iPhone and the plans that went with it, I think you got lucky that first month. I think the current $45 charge for data/text is correct. That cost is what kept me from getting one.

slodave 04-01-2009 01:41 PM

Not lucky, I just didn't realize that they added the $15.00 text plan as well. I thought it was only the data plan. The iPhone is a business expense, not a big deal. I do like having unlimited data.

Man that thing is expensive. It's tough to justify the price for me.

I couldn't do it. I ended up with a Blackberry without the data plan, just the unlimited family text. At 21, I have zero NEED for data on my phone, but I still really want it. But $360 a year is a hell of a lot of money to surf the web or get my email. Maybe in a few years.

Yeah that's how I look at it. I am surrounded by computers.

Just get ya a wife/gf/teenage daughter, you will abuse the text plan.
I have the unlimited everything on my phone and I am about to drop the data. I don't use it anywhere as often as I thought I would. It works as a router for my laptop and that is about all I use that part for.

That is definitely not legal here :D.

I wish my ipod touch came with a microphone and a camera. Because with wireless access, one can use Skype, making it a free video conference and phone device. I even think there would be a market for a mike/camera unit plugging into the USB port. Gosh, why do I always have the best ideas out of my field of expertise?

Headphone mic for iPod Touch from Apple: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB770#overview

Available from others, too.

yes, I knew about the mic. But I want a camera too . One could argue that would make it an iphone, except I don`t care about a data plan.
