We've been Hounded. . .

It was a week ago today that we lost our 15 year old Golden Retreiver (Abby). With three kids moping around the house, it was only a matter of time before a puppy showed up to brighten the faces around here. Murhpy is a 9 week old Bloodhound mix (not sure what he's mixed with) that we adopted from the NE Georgia Animal Shelter. Hard to pick only one to save from the other side, but Murph's luck was with him today. . .

Any ideas what kind of dog is mixed in there? Our vet thought maybe Boxer.

I may be labeled a dork, but......

We had our dog's dna tested. She was very ill and some breeds of dogs are allergic to ivermectin.

Anyway, we thought she was half lab, possibly half grey hound.

Turns out she was mostly English setter with less than 5% of Akita/Chow.

Plus it was cool to do!

Is the DNA test something your vet can do? Any idea of cost? My wife did a search and believes he may be part (or all) Mastif. The ears are not as long as a bloodhound, and look exactly like an English Mastif...black muzzle and all. Hmmmm.

Way to go...Murphy is one cute, lucky dog :)

I think that dog is a cutie.

I think we used this site:

http://www.dog-dna.com/tests/canine-heritage-breed.php

I don't remember it costing 120....I think we paid 60 or 70.

The new Murphy's Law: "Anything that can go right will go right."

Lucky pup, lucky family.

Edit: Man I'm dumb. I read that you "lost" a dog and I was posting weather or not you put out an ad or posters looking for him.

Not that kinda lost. Sorry to hear that. I have two older dogs (14 and 15 years old), both are a Bernese and Border Collie mix. Pretty rare mix and beautiful when they don't get themselves all muddy (they like to roam- they have 60 acres on my parent's farm to do what the please). I just don't know what it is going to be like without them one day.

The new guy looks pretty fun though! Your kids will love him.

Congrats to ya Mike. Great looking "poopie" :D Pound puppies are the best.

Danimal16 04-02-2009 05:28 PM

Mike, you are a good man!

Murph is the rage! That pup is going to give back to you all of the good you have done for him in one very important act, you saved his life. I envy the love that handsome mutt is going to bestow on you and yours! Enjoy (and remember the chewed furniture can be replaced)
