Restoring Dash Vinyl

This is one a VW Vanagon - not my 911 -- stil German vinyl dash tho.

I have an area where it seems that there is old glue or something like it.

And other areas are smoother and seem to be "sunburned," like on human skin - they aren't burned like with a flame or hot skillet...

So far, Meguiars Interior Detailer and Tanner's Leather & Vinyl All in One Cleaner have made little progress. Larry Reynolds web site didn't seem to have anything magic either.

Anybody got any ideas for how to deal with this?

Try Vinylux. It may not take out the glue, but it should help restore the rest of the dash.

Goof-Off to remove the old glue. Be sparing and test somewhere hidden, don't want to remove the vinyl dye.

Maybe some mild solvent like mineral spirits to work the glue off, and if the dash is black, try some Mothers "Back to Black" to even out/darken the color.

Repaint it. Details here:
