Have you ever been to Washintgon, DC?
My brother now lives in NJ, and brought down his girlfriend from NY (near the city) for Easter. She said she'd never been to Washington, DC (but somehow had been to Williamsburg, VA). Anyway, I was surprised and made fun of her the whole weekend.
So have you ever been to DC, and if not, why not? I guess I'm jaded having grown up here in the shadow of the city and rolling in every day or work. I actually see the Capitol every day. Which I guess is strange given this big country.

I lived in the burbs during the Eisenhower admin & the start of the Kennedy admin. Nuclear war drills in the classroom & all. I took my kids some years back too.

Yes, but not until about 4 weeks ago. We picked up my wife's new car at a dealer in Rhode Island and drove it home to Atlanta. We spent the night in DC because it had some sites we both wanted to see and was near the halfway point.
Seems like a cool place and it was nice to see the monuments in the flesh. My father and many of his friends are Vietnam vets and I must say seeing the wall hit me a lot harder than I expected it to. ![]() |

I lived there when I was very young and my mother was in Law school. I've been back a dozen or so times when visiting family up north.

I have been, even tried to see the wall but just couldn't do it, backed off.
I don't see the problem with people that havent been to DC, it is about a 3000 mile trip for me and there are a lot of places I want to see. I have known people that haven't been two states away from where they live. I am sure that is more common than you think. |

My most memorable trip was when they booted my car... well I had tools and stuff and left the boot where my car used to be parked ![]()

My former employer was in Fairfax, Virginia. Every time I went back east (about every other month for four years), I wound up going to DC or to Pentagon City.
I flew Steve and the kids out for Fourth of July. The fourth, in our nation's capital is an extroardinary event. We had toured museums, etc., for two days prior, gone to the Blue Ridge Mountains, etc., during the week. On the 4th, we went to Arlington Cemetary, then to Capital Mall. It was important to me that our children understood exactly what our freedom cost... I am definately not a city girl. Buildings, monuments, etc., really do nothing for me. But the capital mall, particularly when it is lit at night, is an exceptional site. The Vietnam memorial (wall) will carve the hardest hearts into putty. ![]() angela

![]() ![]() This thread is more interesting than I thought it would be. If you have been please post what you've seen/thought was interesting. Perhaps, I'll look at it in a new light. I, like everyone else, was in a big traffic jam a couple of weeks ago and look over to see a car with VT tags and a "1" and "Senate" on the plate. Patrick Leahy suffering the same traffic.

I think it's called Old Ebbits Grill, I know I was corrected on the name but I drank a lot there and can't remember for sure.

Uh yeah, I've been there. I hope to never ever return. If I were POTUS, I'd still live in VA and commute to the WH.

I'm not as widely traveled as some of you guys, but since my dad was in the Navy, I've lived in Japan, spent a few summers in Spain, and visited lots of states and a few other countries. I'd like to hit South America, Australia and Antarctica (or maybe see that one close up from a boat). Just to finish off the 7 continents.

When I was 12 we took a week long family vacation to DC from Pensacola, FL. We spent 5 or maybe 7 days seeing monuments, museums, etc.... It made an impression, but only so much, I was 12. We then spent a week camping in NoVa (Davidson River Campgrounds).
When I was 15-17 we lived in NoVA. I think I was in DC twice the whole time we lived there. Not to see anything, but I think to pick up my HS girlfriend and something else I don't remember. I'm kind of disappointed that we didn't go then. Now that I'm an adult, I'd love to go back and spend at least a week, maybe 2.

I was there for the first time just last year. Great experience.
Our daughter is old enough now for it to mean something, so we spent a week during her spring break. |

I have not been to DC in about ten years, but I do plan on taking my nephew to the Smithsonian Air & Space museum this summer.
