Need help choosing a DD.....
I have already decided on my two project cars, I will get a 914 and turn it into a 914GT w/3.2, and a 2002.... Will more than likely purchase these and put them in the garage and get to them some time in the future... I want to decide on a DD and would like your opinions on my final choices... being able to drive the car within the next few years is not a problem as this is a goal and not an immediate concern... Due to reasons that I have worked through in my own head, the Pantera did not make my list.... The following is what I have narrowed my choices down to.....
73-75 tubed frame 914 utilizing an LS-1 engine upgraded tranny and suspension. Basically a street legal, mid engined stock car... This car would be Blk/Blk 1983 - 1989 911SC Targa.... Blk/Blk No bells and whistles... 2006 - present Cayman S Silver/Maroon No bells and whistles... Factory Five Racing GTM Blk/ Maroon http://www.factoryfive.com/gtmhome.html I figure cost wise these would probably be close to each other, but I really can't figure out which one I would enjoy driving the most... I would like to have them all, but know that this would be unrealistic... Your thoughts would be appreciated...

Well the 2002, I plan on lowering, flaired fenderrs.. 325ES motor & Tranny.... & try to convert the motor over to sidedraft carbs.... haven't done any research on the above, just an idea..... already owned a 75' 2002 with only 35k on the clock and used to get whipped on by Chevettes lol...

Laugh all you want Snipe boy, I have often fantasized about purchasing an ex navy ship and converting it into a live aboard... I mean it has to be better than allowing them to be turned into razor blades.... sadly, I think they would remove all of the weapons systems off though... I wonder if a type three license would allow you to own a phalanx system on your ex navy coastal cruiser... ![]()

I had a 75' 2002 auto...... needless to say, I really enjoyed driving the car, it just didn't have much get up and go... a Tii would probably give some added performance, but I would really like to drop a higher performance 6cyl into a 2002... and I would like to do away with the fuel injection system on the 325ES motor and go to sidedraft carbs if I can.... I have always admired the look of the IMSA BMW's and would like to pull of the same type of look... but have the performance to back up the looks... Having owned a 2002, 320i, 325ES, 530i, 733 and 735.... I find that the best performance was with my 325ES however, the best all round driving car I would have to say was the 320i... for some reason... I really loved that car... looks wise, the 2002 was always my favorite... I think it is because of the small size and it only having the two headlights..

It looks like a fun project.
Have you ever considered one of these? http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/cto/1065710205.html

I actually toiled with idea of an Ultima... I think it is an awesome car, but I think the build price would kill the 914 / 2002 projects.... as it is, I am not financially able to do any of these right now, and it may be wishful thinking, but I always seem to be able to pull things out of my hat when properly motivated....

Realistically, I will probably end up with a 23-27ft sailboat lol... but who knows, if I ever get lucky, I wouldn't mind dropping the hammer on an old research vessel or an older commercial vessel of some sort.... the main factor in owning such a large vessel would be the enormous amount of upkeep... even if I were in Bill Gate's shoes financially, it would be difficult for me mentally to justify having the vessel and the expenses associated with it.... another down side is having to hire a crew... it would be impossible to manage such a beast single hand idly, and I for one like the idea of driving the ship naked every once in a while, while shouting out things indiscriminately like "Thar she blows on the port side Mateys" without having to hear the snickers from the crew.. ![]()
