Sales Tax Rebate on New Cars

http://southflorida.bizjournals.com/southflorida/stories/2009/03/30/daily13.html

Apparently, with certain income requirements met (you gotta make a LOT to fail this) and for new cars under $50k, you get your sales tax back?

If this is old news, please delete, but I found this to be interesting. It certainly helps bridge the gap between new cars and barely used cars.

It's a deduction, rather than a credit, so in most states the net effect will be a few hundred dollars, for most people.

Even if they just gave you a cash discount for the sales tax amount, you would still be almost guaranteed to be better off if you simply bought a lightly used car.

Well shoot, I read it wrong. Its a deduction, not a rebate. Not nearly as cool as I thought. Oh well.

What's the magic with Feb 16th? I bought a new SUV on Jan 12, guess I'm screwed as usual.

Especially since there's no sales tax on a private party sales in AZ.
