rust treatment for headers
any ideas on what I can spray on some "headers" that are rusty to fixz them up a bit?
they are on a Vanagon (not my 911) so there is no way I am gonna take them off and get them ceramic coated or anything spendy or time consuming... I'd like to just hose them down with something, but not sure what would work |
you can try spraying high temp engine paint on them but it wont stay. IMO nothing really works but coatings. Alternatively you can wrap them in header tape.

Wurth high-temp paint has worked on my 911's exhaust for three years now... Prep the metal (sand, clean, primer), then spray the Wurth on and let dry. Worked for me...

The sanding no doubt helped a lot. Rust+paint is not the best combonation, lol.

Swain coat for long-term.

I have used eastwood's manifold dressing many times, and it holds up real well. It is a brush on application so it looks a little funny unitl you cook it .

Thx all. I am looking for the absolute lowest labor (mine) lowest cost "solution." It's a VW, not my 911 (!)
Funny, I looked at the Eastwood web site for their manifold dressing -- they said it had to be repeated every month or so. Maybe that was for top notch looks. I may give them a call. |
