any vinyl repair pros?

i have a 40 year old vinyl (naugahyde) sofa that has finally started to split in spots, about 10 inch long splits all over. i have seen these "as seen on tv" repair kits that look like crap. any ideas?

as you can see, ive had it a looooooong time and hope to save it and not re-cover since i have no way to transport it

THANKS

I doubt if a repair using one of those kits would hold up unless you didn't use it after repairing it, but if it is black, at least you have that working in your favor.

Those TV ads always show repairs on colored upholstery, with the color matching perfectly when that texture pad is peeled away.

It's a lie. When that texture pad is lifted, it's over a section of the upholstery that didn't have any damage to begin with.

Back to your sofa... if it's black, you might give it a shot if the repair kit comes with some sort of backing mesh that you cut to be a couple of inches larger than the split in each direction, with glue that holds it to the back of the nauga and then the globby black stuff goes on top after that dries.

Or you could just put a slip cover on it and we could ridicule you for becoming a metrosexual.
