Adult film star Marilyn Chambers dies at 56

LOS ANGELES – A friend of adult film star Marilyn Chambers says the actress has been found dead at her home in northern Los Angeles County.

Peggy McGinn says the 56-year-old Chambers was found by her 17-year-old daughter Sunday night and the cause of death has not been determined.

Chambers starred in the 1972 film "Behind the Green Door," which was more widely distributed and attracted a more mainstream audience than the usual adult fare.

Chambers, whose given name was Marilyn Briggs, was once a model for Ivory Snow. She was among the first porn superstars when the stag films of the 1940s through 1960s gave way to the more polished sex films of the 1970s.

Wow, young. I never saw any of her porn, but I did see "Rabid" from 1977. Based on the list on IMDB, it looks like she was still doing some.

Behind the green door was shot not far from Sacremento. I know this because the Mansion house used, is now a bed and breakfast, where my sister had her wedding...

She definitely had a sweetness to her, along with that complete wildness - just the kind of woman you want to meet - at least once.

You may be thinking of "Insatiable". It had the pool scene and she was driving a Ferrari Dino wearing a Ferrari t-shirt (removed in the pool scene if I recall correctly).

She was a beautiful woman, one of the most talented porn stars ever and one of my favorites. Very sad to see her go so young.
