1976-79 930 Pipe Light..Euro Style?

Was it on constantly or is it a third brake light? Early 930's have those on the pipe' Ha!

Aerkuld 04-14-2009 02:03 PM

It's difficult to imagine how you could make that any more ghey...

TechnoViking 04-14-2009 02:15 PM

I wonder how hot that gets. I'm surprised they make LEDs that will take that. Must have glass lenses. Kind of interesting from an electronics performance standpoint, but yea, pretty ghey.

Actually, I'm thinking that what we're witnessing is muffler bearing failure... looks like those ones are about to seize!

Wait a minute, I think those are the rare Chrome Reverse muffler bearings going bad. They glow red before blowing up from the extreme heat generated by the 550 HP engine in that car.

Now THIS is the correct interpretation of a 930 3rd brake light ...

idontknow 04-14-2009 05:52 PM

That's awesome!

Jims5543 04-14-2009 06:12 PM

My "ricer car" would eat one of those. Literally.

IIRC we measured the exhaust temps at the tip at a tad over 700°, I know my entire exhaust is warped from the heat abuse it receives from track days.

kstar 04-14-2009 06:15 PM

I think that's an ion drive.
