ipod to sterio cable question

I tried pluging my ipod into the back of my car sterio with an av cable in the corresponding white and red cables. I only get sound in the back and if i plug both in at the same time it takes away the bass. I tried it on two cars it does the same thing. Im thinking the problem lies in the cable. I think i need an audio cable with just the two cables does that sound right?

Forgive me if this is obvious, but are you sure you're plugging it into the stereo's "input"? There are often more than one set of RCA cables/connections sticking out of the stereo, most are for outputs I think.
I'd look in the manual for your stereo. They're usually available online if you don't have it anymore.

Also for $10-$20 you can get small adapters that you plug into your iPod, and they will broadcast it over a user-defined radio frequency, so you can just "tune in" to your ipod. I used to have one, and it worked pretty well.

hebrew i have 2 of those and yes they do work but the sound isnt as good as it could be. And they dont pick up well in the porsche for some reason.
Both of the stereos i tried have only one set of jacks . I believe its commonly used for a cd changer input. But id guess that since it basicly works except for its funkyness it has somthing to do with the cable. I just found this which kinda confirms my theory but not the smae kinda cable

Good point on the sound quality, they do make it sound kinda... radio-ish.

I have two RCA connections on the back of my stereo in the 911, thought I was good to go, then found out it was for some aux input. I could hear sound, but very muted. Turns out that I can't really hook my iPod or iPhone to it.

P.S. check in the manual if it is possible. An iPod does not have the power to drive the speakers in the car.

For the RCA input, are you using something like this from the dock connector? It provides line out instead of heaphone out.

that looks like it would work better ill have to look for one. the one i tested with was a a/v cable that plugs into the headphone jack. its suposed to be for watching ipod on your tv. obviously not its intended use

You're on a very slippery slope. Throw the iPod in the garbage. NOW.

I started innocently enought with an iPod for the son. After discovering that iTunes sucks on Windows I was somehow convinced that my daughter needed her own iPod and boom a Video Nano enters the picture. iTunes still sucks on a PC (crash/lockup if you even look at it) so the next thing I know I have a Mac The cassette adapter is totally dependent on how good your factory cassette player is. Apparently a Land Rover tape player sucks cause the adapter I bought lasted ~ 90 minutes and is lying (melting) on the I-15 East of Yermo. Have not tried a FM transmitter deal cause I know it will suck too. So now the only option is to delete the CD and go with a hard wire or spring for a entirely new (non stock) sound system.

Just burn CDs and get on with your life.

thats odd i never have any trouble with itunes on windows. I think it even worked the time the rest of the computer was locked up. All my sterios are aftermarket. well one came out of an audi but its a blauplunkt and sort of aftermarket. cant seem to keep my cds unscratched but i do burn them when iv got enough songs piled up. I got a cheapo retractable port wire from ebay for 5$ well see how it goes Ill be happy if it works on atleast one of my vehicles. There all kinda setup a little different
