Large Arrows on Downloaded Pics

I regularly like to post pics on my blog and on Pelican. I would also like to put visible circles and visible arrows, etc., in appropriate spots. What is a good program or method to do this? I use MSPaint, but the lines are always too light and the images too large to work with easily, and the "fill" tool doesn't seem to work. Maybe the program is damaged ?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Tom

I have that problem too. I don't think MS Paint is good for illustrating. Waiting for the same answer.

When you click on the tool you use to draw a line or arrow, you should have several choices of line thickness displayed... pick the one you want. This is the thickest line available on my system with MSPaint... is this thick enough for you?

I use Snagit by Techsmith...

www.techsmith.com/screen-capture.asp

I have found this to be one of the best "capture" programs...and it is very user friendly.

Joh R. - I do that but the lines, circles, etc. are so fine that they are almost invisible. When I choose a picture, double click, and click on edit, the pic becomes HUGE. I do the circles and arrows in the widest possible, but when i post the pic in a "normal" size, my markings virtually disappear. I would be very happy with the results in the example you posted.

Size the pic first, then save it, then add your lines, arrows, and circles.

You can try Gimp as well...

http://www.gimp.org/
Download for Windows:
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

It's free and pretty powerful.

Jim - I just checked out the Snagit website. I looks very promising and I think I will give it a try!

Thanks,
Tom

I have tried to do that, but I don't see where I have that capability. Could you expand on the technique?

Thanks,
Tom

Found by looking in the "Help" drop down menu under "resizing pctures":
_______________________
To change the size of your picture

1. On the Image menu, click Attributes.
2. Under Units, click the unit of measurement you want to use for the width and height.
3. Type the measurements in Width and Height.

You can also resize your picture by dragging the image resize handles, located at the lower-right corner and along the bottom and right sides of your picture. (You might need to maximize the window to see the square resize handles.)

If your current picture is bigger than the new size, the picture is cut from the right side and bottom to fit within the smaller area. If your current picture is smaller than the new size, the extra area is filled with the selected background color.

Thanks, guys, for all the responses!!

I tried to download the free GIMP program, but I got a "file corrupted" message.
So I downloaded the thirty day free trial Snagit program and was able to use it effectively pretty quickly.

Here is a sample:

I didn't get a chance to try the others that were recommended, but I think I will quit while I appear to be ahead!

Best,
Tom
