Docs/anesthesiologists for a quick question? Son has surgery in the morning.
My three year old is having is adenoids removed in the morning. Part of his problem has been coughing and it's been pretty bad the last three days. We have been giving him Zrtec and Delsym before bed which really helps but we're worried about doing so tonight before surgery. But if we don't he may not sleep at all, it can get pretty bad. His temp is right at 100 or just under.
We called the Hospital and the on-call says "I don't think it will be a problem"which I agree with but it's not reassuring. Any quick thoughts? |
Thanks!
I guess the worst that would happen is they cancel him. |
Wifes a pediatric anesthesiologist. Neither of those meds should be an issue for a morning surgery. Make sure the staff has been informed.
|
As above. Shouldn't be an issue, just tell the anesthesia doc about what you gave him.
|
Thanks again guys, you made us sleep much better tonight!
|
Good luck, Daddy! I'm sure he'll do fine.
|
Good luck! Let us know how it goes for the little guy.

Have all his coughing been attributed to adenoid tissue? It will be a great relieve to get rid of the adenoid, but I would not be surprised if at least some of the coughing remains. Depending on how that symptoms are described, childhood/infection asthma should be considered.
Hope all goes well. Its a routine procedure. No problems with the meds. |
I hope he's going to get ice cream from his father if no one else.
|
He's home and resting, all went well. He perked up enough to scarf a popsicle then went back to sleep :D
No pain at all yet but I imagine that will come as the meds wear off. FWIW his doc used a different method than the blade, he thermally shaves the adenoids until they are gone. No bleeding and faster recovery. Thanks again guys!!! |
